I am so sadden that Mom O has lost her mate. His soul will hunt the night on the other side. I cannot help but, think how much sadder it would be if not for the humanity of Pete. He has been that bridge between life and death for the owlets. Because it was him and not someone else, five little owlets live. Now how great is that! We need more Petes in this world! Pete, your work is very much appreciated. Thank you Rafikki

Thanks for the update. Poor dad. He was so great. Does anyone know how old this pair are? I will be interesting to see what the necropsy shows. At an Audubon ranch, I doubt it was poisoning. Glad to hear mom is back to being a full time provider.

I believe Daddy O was 9 yrs old, and Mrs O is 7 according to the banding dates, and I think that is what Pete has posted. Although Starr Ranch does not use pesticides, barn owls hunt within a 5 mile range of their nest. There are private properties around there who could have been using pesticides. Pete thinks it is also possible he died of natural causes, old age. My question is why not at the nest then? He has been gone almost 2 weeks, and only died 4 or 5 days ago...unless he was hurt or injured or immobile, where he couldnt hunt for himself, he would have been at the nest...more questions and no answers yet...lets hope Pete will decide to continue the feedings until fledging, because he doesnt support rehabbing and releasing, so the only other option is fostering little ones into a nearby nest. If you recall, Mr & Mrs O laid their eggs a month earlier this year. It will be nearly impossible to find another nest with owlets at the same age...

Thanks for the updates LeeLee. It does seem unusual the way things happened.

I too agree, and things are not our way always with Nature. Thanks LeeLee for your report. Also Rafikki for your beautiful words. Pete is an Angel to these Owls.

I'm glad they are still with Mom... but a foster nest for two or three of the youngsters would be a good idea. But to find a nest with only two youngsters would be difficult, I think. Probably more luck with the two youngest owlets in this nest -- they would probably be closer in age to the owlets in the foster nest.

Recorded around 6:15, local time

You need to change the aspect ratio in your video editor? Looks like 4:3 but perhaps should be 16:9 because your movie has two videos, side by side?

Anyway, it's a cute video!

I am with you KF. I don't have a clue on the technicalities until someone explains them to me! Good to see Tiny growing and not becoming dinner for an older sib.

Great video's. Thanks, and so glad Tiny is doing well. In fact they all seem to be doing well. A Prayer answered.
