WOW, what a morning. They were on the nest just after 6 AM. Visit last apprx. 45 minutes. Then another visit around 8. This lasted over an hour, plus we saw on camera our 1st mating.

Lucy has been interested for a long time and I am sure it wasn't their 1st. Actually I got a ground report this week of another mating on Wednesday.

Larry also brings in a small tree that would make any eagle proud! This is a must see and I cut down over a hour of video to manageable video.

Someone posted on our facebook page a question. The question is do eagles lay eggs mostly at night? What does the research say about this? I'm thinking they do.

Hi Talon. . . I haven't seen any stats on this. Mom Richmond laid one during the day and the second one at Dusk. . of course, Decorah mom laid hers after dusk, I believe. Davenport laid egg #1 during the day. . not sure the time of the second egg. . I did learn that an eagle (and probably other birds) can briefly delay laying an egg. .. but they can't delay for a long period of time (in other words, it the egg is ready at noon, they aren't gonna wait until 9 pm to lay it).. . Sorry I couldn't be of more help. .. but I think an egg comes when it is ready. . .day or night, it doesn't matter.

It does seem that a lot of them lay at night ... but then again ... the days are shorter at this time of year too. I have seen them laid during the day though. Like SGB said ... when it's time, it's time! :)

Here is the poop shoot video from today. I think she thought about it for awhile. It didn't look real strong. I thought it could have been a little farther.
