Good to have you back, Jim. Thanks for sharing all your photos. I loved #74. Is "DT" what you are calling the new female?

Susan, We named her "Dirty Tail" some time ago due to the dark trim colors on her tail feathers.
Thus "DT".

She spent her 4th night on the nest. Was restless ... in the bowl, on the edge, back in the bowl, etc.

As the nest turns ............. :) Good see you again jim!!

Just for the record, the female is sleeping on the branch next to the next. Its the 6th night in a row, but probably for almost 2 weeks now. She won't leave, and she won't lay and egg!! :furious:

I don't mind that she won't leave. It's the not laying an egg that gets me!!! Go DT! Go!!

She may not be laying any eggs but I can tell you she is learning how
to defend. It is excting to watch. A couple of weeks ago I watched as a
adult intruder invaded the nest. Next thing I knew there were three eagles
buzzing around the nest faster than I could get a shot off. It lasted about twenty
seconds and the intruder was out of there.
I was able to get this one of DT in pursuit.
This is her

Yesterday afternoon she chased this one off who showed up circling
and circling and buzzing the nest while the male stayed in it. Again, amazing to witness!

Wow! I sure hope all the intrusions are not causing her difficulty in the egg laying. Thanks for your beautiful pictures Jim.

I just hope that everything settles down at this nest very soon.

I, too, wish things would calm down here. I can't believe all the "single girls" in the area!

Second, I put my name in for one of there calendars and never heard. I send money every year for Buddy and support the Virginia wildlife center . I have gotten a calendar every year and of course I really wanted the one this year becasue it was honoring mom.

Jim, your photos are just gorgeous! So glad to have you back here and your on the ground reporting. You are right...being able to defend the nest is the most important quality!!

Bev, I know they sold an enormous number of calenders. CCB got some of the income from it. And they are sold out. The Norfolk forum is here:
