Well my fingers are crossed for these 2.
:valheart: :valheart:

I am so tired of drama already.
I thought a few days ago when she was so dirty that she had been in a fight but no one said anything so I kept my mouth shut. but now I am seriously thinking that she had been in one and that is why she had been at the nest as much.

it woudl be so nice to have an egg and a young one to start off a new start here :valheart: :valheart:

Recorded at 2:20 AM EST

These eagles are having a rough time.... The female is in the nest bowl and the male keeps watch from the branch above.

I'm sorry ... I'm soooo trying to keep up. What a day at Norfolk yesterday was! I was watching last night and put together a slideshow of another attack that happened close to 1:00 A.M. There are lots of posts and some videos posted on the WOW forum as well.

Gosh, too much turmoil going on at so many nests this year. It will need to calm down for this female to lay any eggs, I would think. :valscratch:

:valbug: We are shocked at the number of "intruders" on our eagle's nests, but according to those in the know, it will increase. Dr Brian Watts along w Reese at NBG, USFWS @NCTC, and Blackwater NWR are all saying the same thing: we protected the eagles, have rehabbed them, so their numbers are increasing, and hatches surviving, but we have not increased where they can live. And there is probably nothing we can do to increase where they can live - they need rivers/water sources with fish, in high numbers. No pond with "sunnies" will do in this case. They are grouped along our largest rivers, chesapeake bay, the n/west and alaska area, and off the n/east coast of Maine. Our local ponds and lakes in other states and regions just wont cut it for these birds...Dr Watts says expect to see more territorial fights and intruders, and egg and eaglet drama...I knew back when all the drama happened to Liberty things were going so wrong...still cant ever get over him and Paddy O...

Lets hope our NBG eagle pair has a really good bond and can withstand this intruder. I wonder if its #2 still trying or a male? will have to watch in the coming days...

LeeLee Reese was on chat this morning. He confirmed that it was not female #2. He also said he couldn't say whether the intruder was male or female.

I only watched for a few minutes this afternoon. The camera was getting a close up of the male's back and it looks like some feather damage.

NBG chat.
Congowings posted that Reese stated to her that he feels the intruder is female. They are referring to her as #4. #3 has not been seen since she left the nest yesterday (Thursday) morning.

#4 landed on the nest about an hour ago. The male chased her off and he remains in the center of the nest.

March 9, 2012: Dad guards the nest. The female eagle he has bonded with, #3, hasn't been seen since yesterday. Several other females have tried to take over this nest, but Dad has chased them away. He stayed around till 5:10 PM. Around 5:45, eagle # 4 (thought to be a female) arrived, and Dad chased her off. Female #3 is four years old* and is probably too young to lay eggs. #4 was also seen earlier today.

From the website: "Because female #3 still has some dark areas on the subadult feathers she is being called Dirty Tail. Dirty Bird is sometimes used to describe a bird that is four years old - since they almost have the white head and tail feathers, but still have some dark feathers in areas - making them appear dirty."

Dad and the previous female had been together since 2003. Sadly, she was hit by a plane and killed last year. Her eaglets were taken to a wildlife refuge (Dad could not raise them alone) and later released.

God bless Dad. His eagle life has certainly experienced some changes in the last year. Thanks for the update beans.

I took my information about #3's age from the moderated chat. I have since learned that is 5 years old. When she goes through her molt, she will look her age.

Poor Dad Norfolk! Life has not been easy for him. He lost his mate to an accident, and then he lost his three eaglets. Now he hasn't been able to settle down with a new mate of his choice.
