And the drama continues this morning, when dad was in the nest and this female was on a nearby branch. According to Reese on the discussion, this was female #4 and dad would not let her into the nest.

That makes sense bev. Hopefully there will be some watchers on the ground that will see & reports something that we cannot see from the cam. Talons crossed.

My guess is that Dad is spending time with #3 off the nest (and off camera).

I hope that there is nothing preventing #3 from returning to the nest. It seems so odd.

Remember the Maine Eagle Nest last year? The female who laid the eggs was frightened away and never returned (as far as we know)

According to the moderated chat stream on the Norfolk Botanical Garden website, Dad was seen mating with female #2 and female #3, and perhaps female #1. Female #4, seen in the nest in this video, had a fierce aerial fight with female #3. Dad has chased her out of the nest several times. Female #3 hasn't been seen for a couple of days. Female #4 sits submissively on the branch over the nest. Dad doesn't chase her out, and when it gets dark, he simply leaves. We thought he had bonded with #3... perhaps he hasn't made up his mind.

#3 hasn't been seen at the gardens since the morning after the confrontation.

Tonight at 5:47pm EST, the NBG male and #4 flew to the nest tree together. He allowed her to stay. She is perched there now @8pm EST.

The inturder eagle flew in a little behind dad but he still will not let her in nest. He heard something , vocalized and then he flew off.
I have had cam up all day.

He let her sit in branch before but not in nest.
Nest appears off limits right now.

He always appears to go off nest and into same area. I am thinking like a human but sometimes that is not so bad.

I am still betting on #3.

Here are some pic from a photographer who took pictures of #3 and #4 locking talons on the afternoon of Mar 7 (the same day as the intruder Dad fight).
The photographer's name is Shelly Fowler.

I am with you Susan. This is really sad, but I try to keep it in perspective knowing this is what happens in the wild. Fight or flight - and in some cases, both.

Beans, your choice of music was more than perfect. Thank you to everyone for all the photos, videos and insights.

A short slideshow of this evenings activities. #4 remained on the branch as Dad sat in the nest. She tried to be submissive to him, moving a tad closer and putting her head down. #3 may have given up and left - but that's just my thoughts. Dad finally decided to leave to roost for the night and the female remains on the branch.

The Lovin' Spoonful also has a song, "A Younger Girl Keeps Rolling Cross My Mind"

She's one of those girls who
Seems to come in the Spring
One look in her eyes
And you'll forget everything
You had ready to say
And I saw her today, yeah

I believe we are experiencing an eagle's struggle with grief and hormones. Poor Dad. This breaks my heart to see him struggle. :cryinggirl: Poor #3. Poor #4. They are struggling, too.

I agree Susan.

It weighs doubly heavy that his nest may be removed once this gets sorted out.
