I didn't get to check on Hope and Valor today .... Kitten? Anything?

PattiO, only got a glimpse at break about noon cst and Hope was in nest on eggs. got home in time for a photo at nightfall. There was also a quick zoom in of eggs, but I couldn't catch a photo.

This am they have switched sitting already once and Valor is sitting in far tree now while Hope on eggs. Looks like the rain has stopped for now, 52 degrees, windy and fog.

kittenface, I'm afraid you may be right... so sad. :cryinggirl: The close ups of the eggs today did not look promising either. And I've been waiting for update on FB page. Came about an hour ago. :tissue:

From SUMR FB page:
Quote:
Hope and Valor are way past the hatching time for the eggs. Looks like its going to be unsuccessful this year. Not sure how long they will stick around and try but its not looking good. Why, you might ask? One reason is that they have spent a large amount of time off the nest during the incubation period. Why? Don't know.

Thanks everyone for travelling this journey with me. Still hoping for a miracle for egg#2!!

We are all hoping for a miracle wskrsnwings, and if things don't work out here this yr we have next yr to look forward too.
This could be good in a way, all those stray eagles were coming around I would rather see the eggs not hatch then have them hatch and something happen to a chick
Don't you forget about all the other nests that are going into hatch mode

The cam went down at 9:48am CDT. Hope is still sitting on the nest, I can see her via the eagle migration cam.

Last photos before cam shut down. :sosad :sosad

A FB poster emailed SUMR about the nest cam being down. Reply was cam operator not at work today and cannot remotely fix it (due to computer traffic & it being slow to load), they will check it in am if doesn't come back up on its' own.
I am watching other cams (with Hope's nest tree up in a corner of my monitor :valtongue: ) and know that seeing 'white fluffs' hatch and grow will fill my heart with smiles again soon. :girlyes:

Hope and Valor's nest cam is back on!! :thumbup Hope on eggs and just 'yawned' several times (hmm... digesting stored food from crop?) Haven't seen eggs yet. Everytime I checked today Hope was still in the nest-she's been there since 9:44am CDT. Haven't seen Valor at nest-saw him in far tree earlier.

Now my hopes are up again for a hatch. :hapdance:

Oh there was food on the nest, just not the way I would have liked it presented. :tantrum2: I saw Valor come to the nest two times today am and pm (Hope left, probably thinking he was relieving her..not!) and eat at the nest... didn't incubate eggs either time. :furious:
As far as I can tell (was away from pc for an hour), Hope was on the eggs from 9 til 7. I truly and tearfully can say I was glad that there were two eggs and no eaglet when she got up at 7pm. Hope seems determined to remain on the nest, I hope she will let 'them' go. Does anyone know how long they continue to incubate past the hatch dates or realize there will not be a hatch? I feel so bad for Hope. :cryinggirl:
Work next two days so please let me know what happens. Thanks!

I'll be around for a bit off and on I'll keep an eye here and as far as the incubation I really don't know how long they stay on them what I have seen before it could be up to 3 weeks

When I was watching on Monday the nest was empty for a long time. I haven't watch the nest since the beginning so I don't know what all happened. Too much time off the eggs?? Intruders? If the male is unwilling to help with incubation he must be very young ...?

I'm sorry wskrsnwings .... I guess it's not looking good now. Hopefully she will give up soon. 45-50 days is not unusual.

Definite-definite-definitly!! I knew Hope was feeling something the last few days as she was so busy moving grasses. Can you believe after all the on/off nest there is going to be a hatch?! I am ecstatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We will be able to see the nest by daylight at least a half hour longer.
Thanks for getting the recorder going, kittenface!! :girlluv:

PattiO, They have been together quite a while. Hope's first mate was electrocuted in 2006. These two successfully fledged three eaglets in 2010. Valor best step up to his husband and dad duties soon cuz there's a baby eaglet coming!!!!!!

Both eggs are hatching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it!!!!!!
per SUMRR FB page
Quote:
Well, what can I say. Hope and Valor know more what they are doing than we do. I have watched this pair and I would have never guessed that they would be successful. They have spent so much time off the nest (45 min - 1 1/2 hours or more), but both of the eggs are hatching. We hope to have some video on facebook soon.

Where is retirement when I need it?! I have to work tomorrow. WAHHH!!!

Thanks, kittenface!

FB page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stewards-of-the-Upper-Mississippi-River-Refuge/162067670495014 said they will put up tonight's short video in am and I hope they continue to put up videos. Hopefully their videos are much better quality than we get watching the cam.

Can barely see Hope 'in the night' but she is turning frequently. Good thoughts that both eggs hatch successfully. I'll check in when I can tomorrow... oh how I hate to be missing this! Go baby fluffs and Hope!!
