It was another exciting day SGB. Great to hear Dr Watts confirm he felt R1 was a female LOL. It is very easy to get caught up in everyone's fear of R2 not getting enough because of R1 pecking on him, and it did get ugly today. Still, all in all, both had full crops, and lets not forget - 2 fish (which are thick, big fish too) are plenty for these one week old eaglets, in one day. If they were a month old and still only had 2 fish for parents and eaglets, then I would be worrying about food.
The sibling rivalry is something that just happens, food or no food. R2 would peck even when R1 was asleep and food was not the issue there. I saw this at Blackwater 5 yrs ago and Lisa there explained and showed pics to prove the point. R1 will peck R2 until R2 learns to assume the submissive position, which sometimes even INCLUDES that R2 turn AWAY from R1 and put head down until R1 is finished eating. I watched Blackwater back then, and Lisa was right - the 2nd eaglet finally learned to turn his back to the first, and lower his head and WAIT until first was satisfied. Its just the way it is. The only thing I myself didnt like to see was that R2 was almost running AWAY from R1 around the nest, since R1 wouldnt stop. I just get scared then of him going off the edge! They really can move for little eaglets, I too, have never seen eaglets get around as fast and far at this age as these 2 do LOL
So we are all learning, by watching so close-up. Once again, you, obxbarb and Mick doing a great job, and Mick love all the videos, so want to mention that again too, thanks!
