wskrsnwings, no need to apologize. We are here for you and wish we could ease your sadness. I don't really understand why both eaglets went over the edge. Just so tragic. When I last looked Mom was sitting as if brooding and then the cam went out.

I was watching and it wasn't so much the last one went over it got its self close to the edge and got down into a small hole like area and just got its self jammed farther and farther then Hope went over to it and moved some sticks/branches and it went farther til it wasn't seen anymore so its like we don't know if it got buried down in or fell thru

I am so sorry I put all of you through this.

Fly free and climb the skies with your sibling, lil' one.

I will miss you both. :smilegirl:

don't you dare apologize!!! we are all here to support each other during these tragic, sad times. . and to rejoice while watching new life grow and thrive!!

I always wonder how often something like this happens. I also have to wonder about the construction of the nest. . is it slanted? was the nest bowl not deep enough? I guess at this point, it really doesn't matter!!!

Hugs to you, wskrsnwings and all of you very close to this nest.

We are off to a very bumpy start, folks. . :cryinggirl:

All of your support gladly accepted and appreciated! You all are the best!! :thanku

Keep reminding myself that nature is in charge. I can only observe and tuck away tightly in my heart, those I have loved and lost. SUMR said Ustream nest cam will remain up until they transfer the other cams to a new stream. It's offline when I have checked (current stream has trouble connecting), but SUMR said they have seen Hope briefly.

Now for my anger stage of the grieving process...
After observing this pair since January, I conclude: 1)Hope is a good mother and 2) Valor is a lax father and mate. He did sit on the eggs, but many times he would come to relieve Hope and after she left, he would fly off. Did Hope think he was there? When the eggs hatched, the only food he brought to the nest he consumed himself on a branch and always tried to eat the food Hope brought for herself and eaglets. He never sat on the eaglets and fed the remaining eaglet once, only stayed with the remaining baby once while Hope was gone - and ate the rest of the fish Hope brought while he was there. When Hope was on the eggs and eaglets, he would come and 'bump' Hope until she got up and flew away, then flew away himself! After they hatched, she would come right back. The night before the remaining eaglet was lost, Hope would not budge off the nest.
Being 'sheltered' (lol) watching only Decorah last year and from reading about eagles, all this behavior shocked me. I don't know how Hope ever would have raised the eaglets herself and that's what she was doing plus taking care of her third child --> Valor. Okay, enough, "turn the page" as my dad would say!!

Been watching other nests. Hoping this year turns around and all the hatches fledge successfully! So many cams to watch!! :)SUMR hopes to have all their cams back up by weeks end, so peregrine cam will be back and a new Pelican Island cam... the white pelicans are already there!

Hugs to all of you!! :loveshow:

Interesting observations. But like you said, nature is in charge. I guess like their human counterparts, some are cut out to be good parents and others are not. Doesn't make it any easier.

Here you go Patti about Wolf River I really was thinking this was going to be a bust the mod was saying about 3 weeks ago that it wasn't looking good that it look as if they were going to build a nest above this one I believe mod has a view from somewhere around the nest its self now don't quote me on that just by some of the ways things were said is why I think that

Wolf River Eagles
Welcome to the Wolf River Eagles nest. Located on the banks of the Wolf River in Wisconsin, these bald eagles have built a nest in a large white pine tree. The nest is not viewable from any roadway and rests on private property.
Our camera is a pan/tilt/zoom camera with infrared lighting. We do have a fixed camera, that we will use in the event of a main camera failure. The audio will be enabled in a short time, to hear the sounds of the eagles in the wild and of course their ever vocal young.
We are on watch to witness the birds returning to their mating ground.

Help us watch for them.

hope this is the right place!

Yesterday according to kyw 1060 AM the eagle pair who reside at the Heinz National Wildlife refuge had their eaglet hatch. No word on how many eggs there are in the nest but last year they hatched two and both fledged. Sometimes you see the adult male perched atop lamp posts along interstate 95 as you get close to philadelphia international airport.

alas no webcam for this private pair
