We thought we might have a egg by now but troubles at the nest site :(

~Yesterday morning as I was leaving for a meeting, my neighbor met me in the driveway saying that two loons were fighting near the nest. Unfortunately I did not have any time to come back and observe what was going on. So I do not know for sure what happened there. [I did not get home until late last night so I have not had a chance to read the chatroom to see what anyone posted about yesterday.]

But right now the chase is on.

I would be thoroughly enjoying the spectacle and laughing at them if I did not know how serious something like this was.

Back and forth they are going. Chasing each other.

It is this kind of confrontation that can lead to a change of territory among loons.

Or worse, can lead to injury.

Still no eggs at the Minnesota loon nest, but this was an interesting excerpt from Larry's blog

Last night after dark, there were more yodels and tremolos.

But as far as I could tell, there were no actual confrontations between the loons.

It was one loon hollering across the lake, "This is MY territory! You stay away." And then another loon across the lake answering, "Oh yeah? Well this is MY territory over here and you just stay where you are."

Hopefully the territorial issue is starting to get resolved and the loons can get down to the business at hand.

That of laying eggs.

Reports of other loons having already nested and laid eggs makes us wonder about this pair of loons.

As I looked back on Larry's comments Susan I did find this posted from Larry on 4/27,
I feel better about "maybe" ... we are not as late as I thought :)
