Thanks for the pics of Phoebe and her new wee ones. Joe built a barricade around her nest now, so she can peacefully raise this brood.

Great pictures rysx! I checked in on the nest yesterday, but the chicks were sound asleep and Phoebe wasn't around. So, it was wonderful to see your pictures of the whole family.

I just caught Phoebe feeding the chicks. They really do look ready to fledge at anytime now!

Phoebe's little cuties are still in the nest, but it looks as if the nest is stretched to the limit.

Here's a picture from yesterday . . .

And here's another from 10 minutes ago.

thanks for the picture Catbird! :thumbup They really don't fit int the nest together anymore so I bet they will fledge any day now.

I released two of the juvies from bird rehab. I have a friend who has more flowers than a nursery, several feeders and wonderful trees and brush for hiding and I always take my hummers there. The entire time I was driving there, they were just buzzing in their cage and when I opened it up, they zoomed out, immediately gaining height and disappeared from view. They were ready!
It was wonderful!

Feeding, about 11:30 local time.

My streaming video transmission was breaking. I couldn’t see the end of feeding but after a moment – Phoebe was gone and also gone was one of the chicks! Only one remained, and it seemed to be rather restless.

Image

About 10 minutes later the first fledgling reappeared, was hovering for a moment and sat on the nest again to keep company with his sibling.

Gigi, how nice to release hummers!

I have been thoroughly enjoying these two the last few days. The male has fledged several times, but keeps coming back. I caught another Phoebe feeding this afternoon, so its clear why he comes back. They are way too big for the nest now, but Phoebe has boomerang kids for sure! They were poking their little beaks through the nest material, with their tongues flicking out on the other side. So funny, but hard to capture.

So glad Joe put up the crow barricade and she was able to enjoy and spoil these babies!

:calm Based on previous years this is probably the final clutch of 2012. Only time will tell what Phoebe has in store for us....

It's wonderful to hear that both of Phoebe's chicks fledged. Phoebe is such a great mother, and it's been such a long time since she's had a successful nesting season.
