Schools receives grant for eagle project
The Bettendorf Community School District is receiving a grant of $15,000 from Alcoa Foundation to fund the development of curriculum centered on the study of eagles. Alcoa Eagle Cam — An Eagle Eye to the World is a project developed by local community volunteer Pat Bereskin, Bettendorf Middle School teachers, Aaron Maurer, Connie Jeschke and Larry Flathman (retired) and three interns, Katie Whiteman, Annie Flathman and Emma Kuebler.
The group developed an array of educational units with an international reach that would tie into the eagle web cam at Alcoa’s Davenport Works facility. Each year the Alcoa webcam captures a nesting pair of bald eagles and their eaglets for millions of viewers.
The units have been designed to enhance reading, language arts, math, science, social and environmental studies, art and music. A Flat Classroom is also being developed. It is an Internet site that will allow teachers and students from around the globe to log in and experience the Alcoa eagles.Schools receives grant for eagle project
