On Thursday morning I was at the end of Buttons Neck Road, about two miles west of the Blackwater eagle cam nest. At 8:58 am mallards on the private property east of the road quacked loudly and an adult bald eagle swooped at them. Two minutes later more quacks and what looked like a full adult golden eagle (dark, with blonde nape, pale upperwing coverts and long tail) swooped at the mallards in turn. Both eagles shied away when they saw me.

The parents on the eagle cam have food a lot closer to them than Buttons Neck Road, so I doubt that the bald eagle I saw was one of them. Still, all of these eagles probably are on a first name basis, as in "Get the heck away from my nest, *******."

Some ospreys are back. One was perched on an alder bush near the osprey cam.

Thanks Greg!! :) Yesterday (or maybe it was Friday?) the Osprey platform was busy. First an Eagle, then the Turkey Vultures ... tonight a GHO. I did see 2 Osprey there on Friday though (on the cam).

These 2 chicklets seem to be doing great!! It's wonderful to see after last year!

This was the nest Friday ... lots of food!

There is a good chance that the eagle is the male of the eagle cam pair. A couple of winters ago a volunteer at the Visitor Center told me that she had just seen a bald eagle (on the Osprey Cam) land on the osprey platform and take off with a big stick. A minute or two later the eagle showed up (on the Eagle Cam) and added the stick to the eagle nest.

Lots of white and gray feathers today. Lunch may have been a ring-billed gull.
