There has been a lot of poo going on today here a lot of screaming chico got a lot of coverage and parent HIGH alert and a couple hours ago mom was on the chicks and dad? I think it was but very wrong behaviour flew in few seconds then slowly walked to the food stash and began to eat it all the while mom was whimpering that's the only way I can describe it. The one ate almost all the food then flew off
Mom has been jittery since then tries to sleep and something wakes her up and she gets all spooked
Worse part is I think the 3rd egg has hatched or is hatching she is hp and down every 5 minutes
Here is chico's videos and then mine were mom was whimpering it is just strange

Watching your video now Kitten ... and that looks like a female tail to me. But I can't believe she would just sit there and not try to chase it off.

SEveral of us were watching the hatching today and decided #3 needs a big strong name. So we are calling #3 Hercules. lol I also have my own names for all three but I will just post them at HWF so others can name or not name them. I have no more naming rights than any one, but do seem to get names each year.

I too am not seeing the usual behavior at the nest this year. I am not certain it is always intruders. I am beginning to wonder if this is a new mate...Dad. He just is not acting like the dad of the last few years. No proof just wondering. Mom is not comfy, this dad eats the food and then lets mom have some. I think they are his chicks or he would not incubate them or so I have read. Fish and mammals are being presented as food rather than all those turtles. So I too am puzzled.

Last year they called out to each other often but it was not like it is this year.

I think this is a new guy he isn't our loving doting dad of the past like he is very new to eggs/chicks He takes the food and eats it or leaves with it (not dad behaviour for sure)
maybe a first timer he'll learn mom is a good teacher.
I'm praying that dad is alright and has a nest somewhere else

I have noticed no fish yet ... but the waters may still be frozen with the cold weather they've had. I'm missing the wide angle cam. "Our" Dad had a yellow tag ... remember Kitten??

Yep & I have tried every angle I can think of to see one but I haven't then I almost had myself convinced it dropped off but its just about sure this isn't dad every thing this eagle does is the exact opposite dad never took food and ate it in front of mom & chicks this one does all the time or else he gets it and leaves dad would never do that he was always bring more and more and he always wanted to sit with the eaglets this one is about half afraid of them he has no idea how to feed them and you know as well as I do dad was a heck of a good feeder.
I think we are going to have to admit this is new guy, it is so sad but hopefully he will pick things up fast
