Look at madame X laying her egg later than expected. We just never know. they can slow down hatch. Maine one year went way over 2007 . biologist gave u p and then 2 hatches. Unfortunately winter storm took them , but there was hatches.

Mods here are fantastic

Such a very sad day. Early chatter is leaning toward the egg falling apart. I believe they will be checking the video archive to see if it offers any clues.

So many miracles at this nest that we cannot lose sight of...Lucy surviving her horrific injury, having such a devoted mate in Larry~who took care of her in all ways (what a blessing that was), human angels who provided food during a harsh winter (thank you Talon), Lucy actually producing an egg (which I firmly believe helped with her healing process) and wonderful chatters and moderators who kept spirits high and reminded us all of the miracles of this pair.

So far, its been a tough nesting season in so many places, its just especially hard here, with Larry and Lucy, because we all know of the hardships they have overcome and the journey they have taken together.

I know we say this time and time again, but Lucy and Larry will move on a lot faster than we will. I pray that Lucy continues to heal, learn how to hunt, and that their bond grows even stronger!!!

Caught this a little while ago...what I missed was Larry bringing in new nesting material...

Who knows, maybe they will surprise us and the egg is really buried under material...LOL..wait, isn't that the first stage of grief? Denial?

AWe SGb such a beautiful post but I my heart is so heavy. this is the one site that held me together this year

I wonder if they have an eaglet somewhere they can give them.

the mods here were next to none, I always checked this site 3 times a day. it just gave me that extra lift.
but I do realize the miracles God provided here, but a little one would have been such a lift for all of us.

I will continue to watch as Larry and Lucy have become a part of me this year.

god Bless everyone here who have given us so much. :cryinggirl:

She left a feather behind .... some chat folks say leaving behind a feather is a sign of a fallen warrior. :(

this has been a very hard day. One that we as mods at eagles4Kids were hoping would turn out differently but the egg was just not looking right. This is a blessing in a way as watching Lucy and Larry sitting on an inviable egg for a long stretch would have been awful. Some may say that this nest failed. But it really did not. It has been a miracle nest from the start. Seeing Lucy in November was just so hard to watch. But she avoided captivity and was so determined to live. Larry is our hero, so devoted. He has been her helpmate through all of this and today he delivers a fish at the end of the day. The first fish we have seen this season on the nest. Talon has been there at every turn. So I choose to believe that this little egg helped Lucy heal and get stronger every day. Talon says the cams will be on for awhile longer. He will surely give us advanced warning before they go off.

I personally want to thank you for complimenting the mods at Eagles4Kids. We have tried to have fun, keep order, and be respectful. OUr chatters have been great. Richmond trained many of them and we are a close family. We continue to meet on facebook at Eagle Friends and we welcome you all to friend us and come on board. Thank you for being part of team LUcy and Larry Sweet EAgle Dreams and now a great big heart that I could not find on the smilies. Golden1/applewooddy

I agree wholeheartedly with you golden1. Lucy and Larry have taught us so much about the will to live and looking at life positively. This experience has made my heart sing with joy!

That being said, what do you and the Team say about the chances of another egg this season?

I really did not think that they could have another clutch. Have been told that there is only one window of time for them to be able to lay eggs. However I will be researching that. I know Belle, at Shepherdstown, did have another egg in 2010 but thought it was laid within that time span. What do you all know??? Will be back with what I find. I would love it, but am also very willing to wait for Lucy to have more recovery time.

Larry and Lucy's story was something I looked forward to each day. I'm sad their egg didn't hatch but I also feel that it helped Lucy to heal and hopefully she'll continue getting stronger each day while adjusting to her disability.
