After a failed nest, is it common for the parents to stay around the nest/ nursery? I am still holding out for another try...

I don't think Lucy & Larry ever go too far from their nest. AND, I'm thinking with Lucy's feet such as they are that she may like the convenience of the nest to rest on. It's going to be a continuous learning experience for us I think ... to see what happens here - as it has been ever since this happened to her.

Will Larry still stay with her with the failure of the egg? That's my biggest question.

I really don't think we can expect them to re-clutch. That's very rare for eagles and usually only happens if the eggs are lost very soon after laying. (Like at Norfolk) It's too late in the season for them. Ten to twelve weeks to raise eaglets to fledging ... with continued food support for another 2-3 months... it's just not in their genes to do this. It's a 'once a year' chance with eagles.

Thanks for the explanation Patti. I am sure you are right, especially about the small window of opportunity for a successful clutch. Just my Pollyanna wishful thinking that we would see an eaglet or 2 at this nest...
