Great catch, SGB. Esslingen and Worcester are two sites where the kestrels have really been keeping their eggs hidden.

    - From your picture, it sure looks like 2 eggs at Esslingen now.

    - And from the Worcester web site, I learned that 2 more eggs (for a total of 4) were laid, with the most recent being 5/8.

I just updated the Kestrel Nesting Calendar with these new egg additions.

:egghatch: :egghatch: Two chicks have hatched for Claudia and Ics! At first I thought it was just one chick from the eggshell . . .

but then Claudia left for a minute, and I saw two!

In other news, the chicks at the Elyakim and Lisbon nests are growing up fast!

Thanks for the nice picture at Worcester, SGB. And thanks, Beth, for all the kestrel nest updates, including the new nest at Dorset. I updated the Kestrel Nesting chart and Kestrel Cam Links page with the new information.

It looks like a nice, clear cam at Dorset . . .

Image

And I do believe that Claudia & Ics now have three chicks. I'm pretty sure I saw three earlier during a feeding, but only two are visible now as Claudia's busy with preening.

:bravo Kudos to Beth for all the great kestrel news today! I can barely keep up with all the new egg and nest news, but I'm not complaining!

I was especially glad to see the new link to the Lesser Kestrel nest in Italy at Alta Murgia! I did a quick search on the forum and found that it's the nest of Ginger and Fred, which we had tracked in previous years. (It might be a new kestrel pair here now, but I'll keep the names "Ginger" and "Fred" until we hear otherwise.)

And I was also glad to see that pictures of the eggs at the Belarus kestrel nest have been posted on the site; it sounds as if the live cam will be up there shortly. (I had been checking that site frequently, but never had scrolled down the page to see the nest pictures from 2013.)

I just updated the Kestrel Nesting calendar and Kestrel Cam Links page with the latest news. Thanks again, Beth, for keeping the rest of us up to date on the latest news!
