Rehovot: Chicks are staying out of the nest.

Fred & Ginger at Alta Murgia: Fred stopped by to spend some quality time with the first egg.

Claudia & Ics: Still just two chicks and three eggs. I think the two chicks will be it for this season.

Fred's doing some major incubating today at Alta Murgia!

Some interesting news about Lesser Kestrels that was posted on the Alta Murgia Web site, May 25, 2012:

Some conducts of the birds can be learned just through non invasive monitoring medium like the webcam - declares Marco Gustin, responsible Species and LIPU research. For instance the last year we discovered that in a nest, although there were still the chicks inside, it was visited by non reproductive male lessers kestrels extraneous to the nest. The subjects in question, probable sub adults, were there to help the caregiving of the chicks or to learn the parental cares.

Berlin: There are probably more than 3 eggs, but the others are hidden.

In other "egg" news, I just spotted the third egg for Ginger and Fred, the Lesser Kestrels at Alta Murgia.

Great, all these updates! Haven't been online much in the past weeks, i.e. not enough to keep track, so this is an excellent thread to remain up-to-date, thanks.

Also missed the new Italian webcam of Ginger and Fred - was hoping they'd still add another cam (like they had the cam in the Rollers' nestbox last year).

Claudia and Ics (Italy)...so strange to not see a full house here..I couldn't tell if there was a 3rd chick buried under there..but I don't think so...

You're right: It's only two chicks here this year, which is quite surprising given the past history of this nest.

Israel (Elyakim) - The chicks here are getting huge.

Italy (Ginger and Fred) - It looks like four eggs now.

Common Kestrels

Portugal (Lisbon) - Mom can barely find room in the nest box to feed the chicks.

Sad news reported by Bosuil: The eggs were removed from the Muttenz nest yesterday because the male had been missing for several days. It appears that a 2nd female and another male have turned up.

Belarus

First two hatches were yesterday, and third hatch was today. So far, I only managed to see two of the cute chicks.
