So sad to see a dead Eagle and know it is one of a well-known pair. :tissue:
Life in the wild is not easy, it's unforgiving at times. And it's at times like this that one could wish to have less human emotion and attachment.
At least it is (just a little) comforting to know he died like a proud Eagle and that it was not because of something horrible, inflicted on him by human action. :cryinggirl:

I have been so remiss the last few weeks ... it gets hard to keep up when summer arrives! But I wanted to share my good fortune!

I got to name one of the chicks on the Channel Islands this year!! :hapdance: My name was chosen to give K31 (m) from the Seal Rocks nest a name. Seal Rocks used to be one of my favorite nests to watch and I miss that pair terribly.

Well ..... after a lot of thinking and searching and more searching and more thinking ... :girlcrazy: I finally came up with a name.

K31 is a male ... and I have named him "Edge" ... after Rosalie Edge. I told Dr. Sharpe I wanted to give California a little Pennsylvania. Edge's sister, K32, has been named Shasta. I think those names sound pretty darn good together! Shasta & Edge! :loveshow:

I'm sure many folks may know who Rosalie Edge is .. but briefly, she was the founder of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary here in PA. Thousands upon thousands of migrating raptors were shot and killed from the ridge at Hawk Mtn. (this went on for decades!) In 1934 Rosalie Edge ended that by buying the property! Her inspiration to become a conservation activist came when she read about the slaughter of 70,000 Bald Eagles in Alaska. In 1960, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary provided the scientist and author Rachel Carson with significant migration data that enabled her to link the decline in the juvenile raptor population to DDT, in her best-selling book, Silent Spring.

Everyone is coming up with some wonderful names for all the chicks ... I'll try to copy the list over when it's complete.

PS ... everyone has fledged from the CI nests except K28 at West End... she's being a lazykins!

Patti what a totally wonderful way to honor Ms. Edge. Thank you for sharing this great information. I remember reading that bit of info when we were up there, by the by we're going to have to do that again maybe we can get more to go up if we give enough heads up.
We miss you but I know your very busy. Maybe in the late summer early fall when things calm down a bit.

That is so cool Patti! Sue Hannon [westwindchild] named one of the Indy Market Tower falcons for Rosalie Edge also. A great tribute to a great lady times 2!!

Well it seems that Dr. Sharpe has begun to bait an area to see if Wray will come in, if so them he will try and trap her to get a look at her leg/foot.
Ravens and they think a Hawk have been around but so far nothing from Wray. Dr Sharpe is going to do this til mid week, he is leaving Northern Calif. and won't be back til the following friday. So everyone is hoping things work out and he can get her before he leaves.
