Thanks Beth, but you and others have done a great job posting kestrel happenings!

The kestrel mom at Aston finally left for a minute so I could count the chicks. It does look as if all 5 have hatched.

:thanku Terka - Thanks for the pictures and great news about the first chicks hatching today at the two nests in Poland! I just added the hatches to the Kestrel Nesting Calendar.


Italy - San Clemente
Still just 2 eggs here. The following was posted on the site, dated 5/26: "Even last year, after the deposition of the second egg, there was a long pause, due to the death of the female. We'll see."


Portugal - Lisbon
All 6 chicks have fledged and the cam is now offline.


Switzerland - Lausen
Both parents were in the nest a short while ago.

I've been redoing my Kestrel links...and it reminds me of why this group frustrates me so much. A lot of these cams do not work in Firefox or if they do, then everything freezes on my computer..grrrrrr..

Looks like I need to switch all these over to internet explorer....which I hate...

Oh..and the fact that I run out of time during the day...guess that's the biggest excuse...hee hee

Thanks for the Berlin kestrel pictures, Ferenz! We should see the first hatch here any day now.

Meanwhile at the Dorset nest in England, there are 3 hatches. The littlest chick on the left looks like it just hatched in the last hour or so.

Hmmm - I wonder if the Berlin kestrels have their first hatch??? That does look like a bit of eggshell in Ferenz's pictures.

Meanwhile, the Wilerfeld kestrels in Switzerland have their first hatches: Definitely 2 chicks (and perhaps even 3).

Kestrel chick news

    - 2nd chick hatched today at the England - Worcester nest.

    - 3 more chicks hatched (for a total of 4 chicks) at the Poland - MPEC nest over the past few days.

Kestrel egg news

    - At the Switzerland - Muttenz nest, Bianca and New Boerni have their first egg. The 5 eggs of Bianca and Boerni (the original male) were removed from the nest ~5/21 after Boerni had disappeared. Since then, Bianca has a new mate, New Boerni.
