No Beth. The parents can't find food. The area has seen heavy development and loss of habitat. Last weekend Nessi went without food for 3 full days. Additionally this egg was laid later in than season than usual.

This was posted 3 hours ago on FB:

"Dear All I spent 4 hours today at the nest site and saw both adult returning empty handed twice after being away for a long time in the 4 hours. As soon as they manage to catch prey Nessi will get his/her share, maybe they'll bring Nessi a little Christmas present tomorrow. BEPR doesn't watch over the eagles 24/7. We only do 4 shifts of monitoring for 4 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. (Ernest Porter)"

There has been some speculation since this was a very late hatch that the parents have stopped tending to Nessi because they are moving into a "rest" period to prepare for next season. This is the time in the season (3 months post-fledge) that they would have stopped tending their fledgling. Ground observation says they have been seen near but do not return to the nest.
