More drama in Italy I'm afraid, one of the two chicks of Alex & Vergine appears to be dead. Saw some pictures on the Italian forum that seem to confirm that. The refresh isn't working since around 10.25 am today, so no further news.

Here's the second chick

Image

It got flipped over when the other chick moved (or at least that's what it looked like on the cam)

Image

Very bad timing...either Mom was standing on it or she had the prey resting on it...it couldn't turn back over and only saw its little head in the pic you see below. I hope its not injured or worse..

I was watching that feeding too this morning, until I couldn't take it anymore. She was trying to feed it while it was on his back and the other one kept falling over. I don't know why a parent doesn't turn them back over when this happens. I didn't get a chance to check back in to see how things were going.

I am very concerned for baby #2. I don't know if something is wrong or if its just not getting enough to eat and is very weak. Parent left and it popped right up...but, like that required way too much energy, it flopped right over on its side..Parent came in and I didn't see what happened after that...

Alex and Vergine

I'm always scared to check this nest. I never know what I will find. Something is wrong with the baby, but its hanging in there..I wish somebody would go up there to help..

Vergine feeds. :egg8:
This one, cripple, forever lying on his back, also got.
Mum paid him much attention.
Will there be anything out of him?
I have a question

Thanks loza

It breaks my heart to watch Alex and Vergine's nest. I wish somebody would go and help that poor chick. I would bet money that during its very first feed (and if you'll scroll back some you'll see it) that it was injured when Mom either dropped the prey on it or was standing on it...my guess, one of its little legs...or maybe it was disabled when it hatched...I just don't know. It can beg for food with the best of them so part of it is healthy!! I guess this is a no intervention nest. I bet if this nest were "next door" to Aria and Vento's nest, somebody would already be up there trying to help!!!...just makes me so sad..

Alex and Vergine..

At least the baby has turned over...I don't think its doing very well...its so sad and frustrating that nobody has gone to help. What's interesting is that on the Birdcam Italia FB page, there are no pics, nobody appears to be discussing it...All the other Italian nests are represented... :girlsad3:

During this time, Virgine twice went out on the threshold, looked for a meal.
In the end, she flew, leaving children
