Belarus - Brest

It appears that there was a 2nd fledge here today. I only saw baby and one of the older chicks when I looked in on them a couple of minutes ago.

Italy - Matera Lesser Kestrels

Surprise, surprise! And then there were two: A 2nd chick, a rescue from another nest, was added to the nest here yesterday.

Switzerland - Rhine Nest 5

3 of the 5 chicks have fledged.

I know absolutely nothing about this nest. I have it "marked" as Alta Murgia, Lesser Kestrel

At first, I thought only 2...then I saw a 3rd...but, it seems there are 4 in there..

Already last night it seemed to me that one came back and confirmed this morning. :loveshow:

6.51There were three kestrels in the slot.
7.14 One flew away, I think this is what came back

a moment later 7.23 and flew a second for her first flight. :egg20:

For solace smallest dad brought breakfast, looked around the nest
and flew away

Great captures, SGB - I find it hard to get good snapshots in this nest. Yes, there are 4 chicks - one clearly a bit smaller than the others:

Sunday around noon - about 30 degr. Celsius - chicks panting

Wednesday around 9 AM

Matera Lesser Kestrels

Indeed a chick was put in the nest (as Materanatura mentions in the chat). I think it was a good move, the single "resident" chick had no competition and no challenges, no-one to play with etc. He spent a lot of time literally hanging against the side of the nestbox.

The new chick is slightly larger / older, can stand upright (usually starts around age of 2 weeks) and grabs lots of preys, but not to worry: the smaller chick perfectly knows how to steal, e.g. this morning around 8 AM:

"Hey, this one's for me!"

"Hm ... he's faster than I thought ..."
