loza - Thanks for keeping track of the Brest kestrels. I checked the nest just now, and the baby is still there. But baby is not looking so young now that final feathers are starting to appear.

England - Simon King

And then there were none. Sadly, this year's nesting attempt failed as the eggs proved to be infertile. The kestrel parents and remaining 2 eggs were gone from the nest when I just checked.

Italy - Matera Lesser Kestrels

And then there were 3. Another rescued orphan chick was added to the nest on 7/11.

Switzerland - Rhine Nest 5

All the chicks have now fledged.

:egg15: Oh no! Such sad news about Baby falling out of the Belarus nest during a fight over food with one of its siblings. Thanks for being there to record the event, loza. I just hope Baby survived the fall and was able to be rescued.

I went searching in the BCAW archives because I remembered seeing a post several years ago with pictures of the Brest nest location. If Baby was lucky, perhaps he/she ended up on a balcony or some soft grass below.

Bosuil - Nice picture of the 3 cute chicks in the Matera nest! I'm so glad the one chick that hatched here got some nest mates to keep it company. And I'm so glad that the 2 orphaned chicks that were rescued from other nests found a nice home here.

loza - Have you heard anything about the littlest chick that fell out of the Belarus nest? I hope it survived the fall and is being watched over by its parents (or that some kind person found it and took it to a rehab facility for care.)

Italy - Matera

These 3 chicks are growing really fast. Most of the time when I check in on them, they are outside of the nest and out of cam range. But this morning I got lucky and found all 3 at home.

Image

Italy - Alta Murgia

Usually one of the chicks is up close to the cam and blocking the rest of the view into the nest. Yesterday, though, I did manage to see at least 3 of the chicks.

:egg19: Feather - Thanks so much for letting us know that the Hrodna nest in Belarus is back again for 2014.

I just checked out the site. While I couldn't get to the cam then, I did see the reports so far and managed to make some sense of them using Google translate.

Apparently, the nest was discovered very late with 3 chicks that are expected to fledge around 8/1-8/4. Here are two pictures posted on the Web site: the first is when they were ringed (I believe), and the second is from earlier today.

We should have about a week to enjoy the chicks here before they fledge.

Catbird ,
I have no knowledge of what happened to the smallest, which fell out.

At a forum on the preview page, none of Brest did not take a position.

There were questions to local but unfortunately no response.

loza - Thanks for the information about the Brest nest. I guess we'll just have to assume that the youngest chick that fell from the nest didn't survive. It is good, however, to see that some of the other youngsters are still around and have been visiting the nest.

In the Hrodna nest, the chicks have been doing a lot of flapping around and jumping up on the walls of the nest box. I did count 3 chicks this morning, so I don't think that any have fledged yet. But it does look like they'll start fledging any time now.
