I'm afraid they have had to desert this egg too. The weather is just too rough.

I thought they'd deserted the egg also, until I saw this. These eagles are really determined!

Thanks Catbird for all your wonderful pics!

I thought the same - but then suddenly Belle was back and incubating as always! Was it almost one our, when the nest was empty?

And now, Belle has some light there, hope this means also some warmth on the nest.Image :snowflakewow:

I don't know if I can watch her tonight ... the wind is awful.

Annie - I don't think the IR light gives off any heat...the eagles can't even see it.

At this early stage in incubation , her leaving the egg is not th eend all. the snow down there will act as an insulator and it is hidden form th ewind.

Mom just had to get some time to get ready fo rtonight.
I think Liberty just could not incubate in the bowl. smart for him not to try and knock the walls down. He is a different shape and I think Belle has the nest bowl built just for her right now.

I am holding firm with them. If this egg makes it through this ,then we will jsut have to wait a month to see if it is viable. I have been praying and my bet is on them. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
I have been away all afternoon so I will keep this cam up and keep watch when I can

Hi everyone. :wavingsnowgirl: Have been so glued to the monitor all day, this is the first chance to come here and read the posts. When Dad was on the nest this am, relieving Belle, he stayed an hour and then took off. The wind was 50mph and he was blowing all around. He was gone then 15 mins. and later after he came back, when he left again the nest was empty for a half an hour, and from getting out the nest snow caved in by the egg. Each time I look, there is snow in the nestbowl by the egg. Both have been off the egg for half an hour a different points today. I dont see how this egg could be viable at this point? I feel like Liberty only had come back to show his committment to Belle, at noon they were both side by side on the nest for an hour. Went to a site to find out more info on them, looking for their age. They have been together at this nest since 2003, when they built the nest. 2004 first egg laying together and fledgings. More info and pics for those who want to see, is at www.eagletmomsters.com/history.html
I am curious about how long they can be off the egg, maybe the biologists have never exactly seen this before, without cams, and could be wrong? Here's hoping...any info on this from anyone is appreciated!

The wind is really tremendous at this point and whoever is on the nest right now has got his/her head tucked into their back. Hard to watch. I don't know what will happen with this egg, but my head says there's been too much exposure and too much snow around it . . . my heart says Belle & Liberty will make it happen. They are so close and strong. May the heart win! :beathrt:

Belle is doing a terrific job of keeping the egg warm.

as I stated before(and this has been seen before) at this early stage in incubation the egg is not in danger of being left alone. It was protected from the wind and It is well under .

In 2007 at Maine the female was off the egg for well over an hour. It was a really long time but a miracle happened and the eggs hatched. We all know what happened after that

I do not know if this egg is viable but I am hoping for this pair it is. If the egg was left out in the open, maybe, but it is covered. this is Belle on the nest tonight.

I have seen video of today and dad helicoptered over the nest bowl so as not to knock snow into it. After watching last night I believe the egg is nestled in some nest materials and the snow that was knocked in was not harmful. It was powdery. Not like Saturday.

Good luck mom and dad. You are a great experienced pair.

Nature will decide this one and it will not be the fault of a great eagle pair. I am still rooting for them :loveshow: :loveshow:

Thanks for your input, SusanE and Bev :arrhrt: :arrhrt: :thanku I am uplifted somewhat now, and will continue to hope they can pull this off...They are such beautiful creatures. Belle's feathers are being blown all over with those high winds. Seeing her buried in snow last night moved me sooo much :beathrt: I truly hope in the morning light, with no snow or wind, we will see some nesting material protecting that egg, and all will be ok in the world again... :hearts: :cold: and now, its :offtobed: for me...

No one was home when I first checked on the nest . . .

Image

But Belle has now returned. For the past minute or so, she's just been standing there.

Oh no, she just flew off at 7:42. I hope this doesn't mean that she's given up on the egg!

Someone just came back and checked out the nest bowl. I think it was Liberty, but he left after only a minute. I'm going to close the cam . . . it's too hard to watch any more.

Image

Oops, I spoke too soon. One of the pair just came back at 8:01 and is hunkered down on the egg. It must have been Liberty, because both are there now and it looks like Belle is getting ready to take over incubation duties.

Image

And now both are gone again at 8:05. Like I said before, it's just too hard to watch!

I wonder if Belle is planning to lay another egg and that would be why she's not incubating full time yet. . . . ?

She walked here to the edge, looked like she turned the egg, then backed back out.
Image

When she turned to fly off, more snow went down in the bowl. Ugh.

I have been watching them this am again, and it sure is hard to watch. When they were both there, they tried to put a branch into the nestbowl, and dig up some nest matter and just couldnt with the high winds blowing them off the nest. Now the egg is alone with more snow in the bowl. I think Belle is going to lay another egg and that is why she has been determined to make even a new nestbowl spot where they dug up on the other side of the nest earlier this am. You could see down to the floor where it was darker there. Now I see that part has snow blown into it again too. The winds keep forcing Liberty to fly off. It is sad, I would hope if she is going to look for a spot for her possibly last egg to be laid, she could find one. I am afraid all will be lost here if she doesnt, and they will then abandon? It seems they may have given up on this egg, but NOT on repairing the nest so she can lay another. If they give up on that, I fear they will then abandon the nest. VERY HARD TO WATCH THEM like this...Bye the way, I just got a new laptop for Xmas and on this outdoor channel stream, cant seem to take a scap. Can either of you tell me or pm me as to how I can get one? Some cams offer right clik and such to get a scap. Have tried alt/prntscrn on this laptop and it wont give a pic. Am I missing a step? Does anyone know to help? THANKS YOU ARE ALL THE BEST, I just love this forum :hearts:
