The snowstorm that covered that poor eagle got me today too! At least I was nice & dry.

That video was amazing sgb!!! I am so glad I wasn't watching this today, I would not be able to stand it. I have several male friends who are not cam watchers sending me photos and videos from this nest. It must be very popular and quite an education for everyone. In all my eagle watching I have never seen anything like this, holy cow!! There is a photo of the male standing on top of her that is going viral on facebook now.

Sadly one egg lost at the Pittsburgh Hays nest :cryinggirl:
March 14, 2015 — bald eagle, birds, Eagle, eaglecam, eagleholic, egg, nature, Pittsburgh Hays, raptors

They are reporting that one egg has been broken. They believe it happened yesterday and have noted that it appears that the chick inside was not developing (for me, it helps to know that, especially this late in incubation, making it a tiny bit easier to deal with). Talons crossed that the remaining egg hatches as expected in about 10 days. Condolences to all who follow and love this nest. Cautionary note, although they are indicating that the egg had not developed, I believe the egg shell fragments are still in the nest bowl, so if this is difficult, you may want to avoid this cam for a bit. Unless I see that there are actual remains, I won’t do an official Watch Caution in this instance.

About an hour ago I saw a nest exchange at the Hanover nest. First time I've actually seen both eagles at the same time. I believe dad eagle took over. Hatch watch is to begin on Saturday, March 21. There has been some VERY cold weather here since those eggs have been laid, let along the snow. Several mornings it was below zero.

That snow is NOTHING like what we had the other week. Am more concerned about the effect of the EXTREME cold weather that we had here in early March. There were a few days when it was below zero in the morning. I know hatch watch has started, but so far can see only an adult on the nest.

I've checked in on the Hanover eagles several times today, and saw nothing that would indicate any hatching. Whichever adult was there almost every time I looked was often fooling with the grass in the nest. Around 7:00, whichever adult was there got up to give a view of the two eggs. Couldn't really tell much. Eggs were turned, and the adult settled back down.

Thanks, Jane! I got sick this afternoon & wasn't able to keep an eye on the nest. I know the local news was talking about possible hatches this weekend.
