7.28 Queen sitting after a while gets up goes to the outlet.

You can not see the eggs.

Here is approx. 10 min and again sits in the hole nesting.

7.44 King She yells gets ruffled. He runs away.

She screams continued for 5 min on hole, probably hungry :)

Ferenz - Nice catch of the kestrel at home in Muttenz. I've missed seeing these kestrels.

Lesser Kestrels - Elyakim

She got up and finally I could clearly see the eggs - there's 5 of 'm (but it's hard to see in this snapshot)! :newegg:

Hard to know for sure when the first egg was laid, from my notes I think continuous incubating started March 29, so that would make first hatch between April 24-26.

(And that would make the date of the first egg March 23, assuming continuous incubation was started after the 4th egg - partially speculating here ...)

Bosuil - Thanks for the Elyakim update. I've adjusted the egg dates on the Kestrel Nesting Calendar to reflect a first egg date of 3/23.

Great to see so many active webcamnests covered here! The traditional Belarus nest, the new Hungary balcony nest, the German nests - a wealth of images and glimpses into "kestrel private life"!

About the Beleef de Lente nestbox - just read the female around now is a different one, she's ringed.

Lesser Kestrels Elyakim:

Cold, rain, thunderstorm even this morning, quite unusual in mid-April. One could hear the thunderbolts! No wonder I found the male taking shelter in the nest. The female didnot allow him to take over incubation, so he just roosted, occasionnally requesting his turn to sit on the eggs, in vain ("those females!")

7:42 AM - male looks outside angrily when thunder strikes

8:20 - the male looks out to check the weather, but returns to preen and sleep.

At 8:50, he had left the nest (possibly w/o having taken his early morning shift ... ;-) , just going for breakfast, finally ...)

Bosuil - Thanks for the news about the new, ringed female at the Beleef de Lente nest. And thanks too for the cute description of the Elyakim male taking refuge in the nest box during a thunderstorm.

Hamburg - It looks like the first egg at the lower edge of the screen.
