At least 3 chicks visible (there are no whole eggs left, I noticed - but yest.erday I thought I saw a dead chick,
couldnot keep watching, so couldnot verify - we know Lesser's usually rear max. 3 chicks)

Bosuil - Thanks for confirming the 3 hatches at the Elyakim nest.

Priscilla - Thanks for the not-so-good news at the Zurich-Altstetten nest about the loss of one egg.


Hungary - 4 hatches today! The female is having a hard time keeping everyone covered up.

matera...

She had been eating in the back of the box..he came in...stood for a few, got the prey that she had previously stashed in the back, gave it to her, she rolled her eyes (author's license) and returned it to the back of the box..I saw no eggs..

SGB - Great catch of the Matera kestrels! I'm beginning to think that the male is overloading the female with food gifts. When I checked on this nest earlier in the day, I didn't see the kestrels but I did see two dead mice. (I decided not to take a picture of the two mice.)

Ferenz - Thanks for the egg news at the Rosenheim nest.

loza - Thanks for posting the feeding video at the Hungary nest. I don't know how the female manages with four chicks and two eggs in that small nest box!

Matera - Lesser Kestrels

These kestrels are just too cute! I finally found the female at home this morning. She was scrapping up a storm, so perhaps the first egg will be coming soon.

Thanks for the Rome news, loza. I'm so glad to see the cam is working again - it really is sharp with a nice, colorful view.

P.S. I updated the Nesting Calendar with the latest egg. I figured it was laid on 4/27, 2 days after the previous one.

In between, chicks by themselves - continuously begging.
