loza - Wow! Seven chicks now at Kwidzyn. That's a huge brood! (Thanks too for explaining that it's likely chimney soot on the chicks at Wloclawek that's making them appear dark gray.)

Bosuil - Thanks for the news about the cute kestrel couple at a second cam on the Nestkast live site! I hope there are eggs and chicks in their future.

NestKast 2 - Both kestrels were there on the ledge, then the female went into the nest to munch on a mouse (I think), and finally the male flew off.

Altstetten - First hatch should be any day now.

Hamburg - I counted 5 chicks just now!

Germany - Hermannswerder

I just discovered this new kestrel cam in a water tower in Germany with two different views of the nest box. There are 3 little chicks - plus 2 unhatched eggs - in the nest. I believe the chicks were hatched around 5/18.

And yet another nest! Whaw. By the end of this season, we'll know everything there's to be known about Kestrels!
Thanks again everyone for all those beautiful snapshots - me, I'm just keeping track of the Lessers, so thanks to you, I can still follow all the rest!

Lesser Kestrels, Elyakim

The chicks have transformed into an unruly gang - they jump on anything remotely resembling to a prey (a pellet, the connector at the end of a cable that sometimes appears above the "floor material"), run, flap their wings so energetically that they are shocked themselves and ... steal preys from each other. Often the 2 smaller ones will sit at the window, waiting - and when they grab a delivery and run to a corner, not seldom one of the big ones - who are are waiting leisurely in the corner under the webcam - will just grab it from them.
