Ferenz - Great pictures of the Rosenheim chicks!

Rhine (Kamera 2) - It looks like there are at least 4 chicks now.

Image

Elyakim - It looks like 1 of the 4 chicks has fledged.

One is master in hiding under the cam and keeping quiet for a long while!

Last night - 11 PM

But this morning really one fledged, between 6:45 and 9:45 local time.I definitely saw 4 early on and haven't seen 4 since the later moment I started to watch. One is always in the window, 1 is often hiding under the cam and flat on the floor, one is mostly going berserk: flapping its wings,

Image

jumping on imaginary preys or on the cable and connector that are loose in the box,

Image

grabbing stuff on the floor, jumping on its siblings and generally never getting quiet anymore! ADHD kid.

Thanks for the Elyakim news, Bosuil. I changed the first fledge date on the Nesting Calendar to 6/1.

At the Beleef de Lente site, they were reporting 4 eggs on 5/31.

Thanks for the updated links! It's nice to have working links again for the Berlin kestrels.

Priscilla - Thanks for the exciting news about another kestrel nesting pair in Hungary. If it's kestrels nesting at Saker now, then I think we should continue with the Saker posts here. I've added "Hungary (Saker)" to the Kestrel Nesting Calendar, and I'll add it to the Kestrel Cam Links also.

from fb Ragadozómadár webkamerák - Raptors Webcams HU

difficult situation for the kestrel
before laying the egg, kestrel bothered by a cuckoo and then arrival of the saker falcon (June 1 at 10 am)

then the egg's video at 1 pm around

and at 4:30 pm around the saker attacks again, the kestrel leave the nest and chases around the nest

Lesser Kestrel, Elyakim

Image
Last night, 7:05 PM - and then there were three ...

This morning, somewhere before 7:30 AM, the other three left the nest!
As far as I know, there are no recordings, I missed the event ...
They were older (36-38 days) than the fledglings from previous years (30-33 days).

Image
This morning, shortly before 8 AM: Dad returns to the nest - without prey - to find it empty.

One can hear the juveniles begging for food nearby - possibly on the roof.
Also, the alarm calls from the parents ("tsek-tsek-tsek") are heard from time to time.

Lesser Kestrel, Matera

Meanwhile, these guys are nearing hatching date ... the male faithfully taking his shifts while the female hunts herself (so different from the Common Kestrel, where the female does most of the incubation and the male provides her with food).

Image
"Yes, they're still there ..."

Priscilla - Thanks for the update on the kestrels at the Saker nest. I'm hoping that the kestrels will be able to nest here, but I just found the falcon at the nest box.

Image

Bosuil - Thanks for the news from Elyakim and Matera. I noticed the empty nest at Elyakim this morning, but I wasn't sure if one of the chicks was still there hiding from the cam. It's nice to have confirmation that all the chicks have fledged!

In other news . . .

Hungary - It looks as if all the chicks have fledged except one (but then there are plenty of places for chicks to hide out of camera range).

Image

Dettingen - I only see 3 chicks in the nest, so I'm assuming that the other 2 have fledged.

Image

Kempten (cam 2) - It looks like 5 chicks have hatched here.
