It had started to rain, some hail, waiting for Judy to arrive at the Armory. I had to leave in a hurry from a neighbors apartment after a SMS from Emm and Helen to say SE-15 was on the ground. We entered from the rail line to Building 22 and moved straight to the direction that I was given from the nest. We had to find 15 before dark. Otherwise the foxes may get dinner. After a short search I spotted 15 perched on some low scrub about half a meter off the ground, I could just see head and half the body. As I approached he flapped his way off the bush and when I got about a meter away he rolled onto his back raised both of his feet talons spread , raised his hackles opened his beak in a very defensive stance. I introduced my self to him in a calm way, gave him a bag to grab onto with his weapons and calmly picked him up containing his legs. Folded his wings in and posed for Judy to get a photo. He was at no time aggressive or frantic, it was just a blessing that I could be in such close contact with such a beautiful creature. We took him to the ARH (Animal Referral Hospital) where he will remain overnight. His primary feathers are a problem, I will report tomorrow after the vet has inspected.

UPDATE 5pm - Geoff visited SE15 at the vet and fed *him (generic term, we don't know gender yet) barramundi. I think he said 7 or 8 pieces, which is pretty good. As well as no bone breaks (mentioned earlier) he has no ticks or parasites. His neighbours are now a noisy miner and a turtle.

As per Judy on SS this afternoon. SE15's remaining damaged primaries were removed along with a couple of secondaries. SE15 will not be returned to the nest, as there will be a lengthy stay in rehab. The feather damage was not caused by fall or from fighting with SE16, blood tests will hopefully identify the cause.

There is no ETA at present on when the results are due.

UPDATE 12pm, 3rd of November
Geoff and Judy have been to visit SE15 this morning. Food today was whiting and bream. They will go back this afternoon for another feeding.

SE15's weight is a bit lower than expected; eating well today (Geoff's words were "ravenous")

We are waiting for all approvals as well as clearance from the ARH for probable transfer to Taronga Zoo as soon as possible, where SE15 will be cared for by the veterinary team there.

The vet has confirmed, it is not possible for SE15 to be returned to the nest as he would be unable to fly.

Results from blood tests will not be received for some time, although the vet is attempting to expedite this process.

UPDATE 6:45pm AEST
We were able to feed SE15 more fish. Also received fluids, antibiotics and anti-fungal injections (some of this shown in photos below posted by Geoff)..
Permission has been received from National Parks & Wildlife for SE15 to be released from care in the ARH and taken to Taronga Zoo tomorrow. SE15 will be kept in quarantine, pending further results from blood tests. Here SE15 will be housed in appropriate conditions and will receive every care and attention.

UPDATE 2:30pm November 4
Geoff and SE15 picked me up and we drove to Taronga Wildlife Hospital (TWH) (behind and separate entrance to zoo). We met Judy and Lilly, her grand-daughter at the front gate.
We took SE15 inside to a treatment/unpacking room where he got out of the box and we gave some history on how he ended up on the ground. "Our" baby is big and appears calm, he put on 600 grams since being in hospital. I touched his head and neck (so soft) and told him to get better SOON!
Geoff took SE15 to his "new home" for now. He has lots of perches and was moving around on them comfortably.
Blood work from ARH will take approximately 2 weeks. In the meantime, the vet will examine him later today.
I can't say how often we can provide updates. Geoff is the point of contact to Libby the TWH manager. They are an extremely busy facility with lots of patients!
Lots of people have mentioned donations so we enquired at TWH about the best approach. It appears that donations are usually made at the zoo and then they are apportioned money, however they are able to collect independently with cash or cheque (to their own donation box).
If anyone wants to donate specifically to TWH (not via the zoo), you can send the donation via EagleCAM and attach a note to say where the money is to go. Eg. With a $5 donation you may choose to send $2 to the EagleCAM project and $3 to TWH - there is provision to add a note on the donation page. Geoff can then put all the donations together and give them the money directly.
Just one picture for now, I actually took a lot more using Judy's tablet, so we'll have to wait for her to upload them.
Thanks for all your best wishes, prayers, tears, support and concern.
Shirley/liberty1998 (also on behalf of Geoff and Judy)

A huge thanks to our friend Cathy Cook (moilly on chat) for these great pics showing "our" other baby, SE16 flying around outside the reserve. As you can see, she has collected quite a sizeable entourage. Pictures taken near Armory Wharf. Link shows the location on google maps.

Sharing this from Judy Harrington. She went into the reserve this afternoon.
Very interesting. Earlier I walked into the forest, looking for SE16 and other signs. I saw a pair of magpies and currawongs looking at something on the ground and thought it was a fox They were not really swooping, but looking and giving fairly quiet calls .To my surprise it was the young eaglet. It took off from the ground with no trouble and swooped off, fairly low. Currawongs chased it with purpose then. The female (I think) must have been nearby and seemed to be following it around. It is hard to follow in the thick forest, but SE16 seemed to be flying strongly and easily through the trees, followed by the currawongs. I saw them both flying back and forth several times. The male was down on the river, as reported by the rangers.
I found several damaged SE15 feathers on the ground and have bagged them.
I also found a perching post, close to nest 1.
Underneath I picked up several pellets, which we rarely find. Also eel/big fish remains, a blue-tongue skull and remains of a gull. the gull is still there. When I have gloves I shall look at the feathers for signs of problems.
I have photos of remains, but not eagles flying - that is beyond my tablet camera.
