silly me went in and took a peek and there is fresh food now but E7 will not leave E8 alone. I have seen lots but this is above and beyond. E8 will not starve yet, but he has to get away form the Budda. when he tried the Budda follows him and just reefs on hims so I am really away now.

I know we have to trust the parents and Harriet is smart and is trying to stuff the heck out of Budda but he just will not leave E7 . I know how it works but I still cannot handle the young eagles.

It is sooooo much easier to watch falcons! By the time falcon eggs start hatching, I've had enough of eaglets & their sibling rivalry.

Hope you're watching now, Bev, because now both parents are feeding E8! :loveshow: When I first switched back to the cam, it looked like one parent was actually blocking E8 from E7 so the other parent could give E8 a bite. Now the bully is passed out so E8 can eat to his heart's content!

So who woke up Budda. And he just cannot let E7 alone. almost like something was wrong with him. Sibling rivalry is one thing but he certainly is getting more than his share. He needs to take the bullying course.

So luckily I have to go and take care of hubby. And I thought things were better here.

But as they say, it is nature. Just not my kind

I have read posts from people that there has been the usual sibling rivalry here, but as you say Bev, this is over & above the usual. :girlsad3: I also watch the other Florida nest, Romeo & Juliet, & it doesn't seem as bad there. Of course now the eaglets are big enough to have outgrown that anyway.

I agree. I've never seen sibling rivalry so vicious. I've watched Berry and Decorah over the years and don't recall it this bad. Once a bully gets full, the other chick usually can feed. The moderator has seen worse. Yikes! The chick was so ravenous and the parents realized it. Blocking E7 helped, but E8 was so hungry and there wasn't much fish left. By evening, both the parents and the chick couldn't see. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. I'll be glad to be at work. This nest is too hard to watch. Dad needs to do more hunting. I think Harriet pulled out of the nest whatever dried up scraps she could today.

now that I have sounded off, and it felt good :girlyes: I will give way to reason. Been watching a long time and know to turn off cam when I cannot handle it. I also know about sibling rivalry but usually this is where there is not enough food, and except for last few days larder has been full.

they are both good hunters but sometimes , it is not there. I just have to watch my falcons to know how many times they usually hunt before they get something.

Last year it was brutal , but food was scarcer , and at same time, when one was full , he usually just crawled away. This guy follows poor E7 all over and E7 cannot get away.

I also know this will pass and if enough food, both will be fin, but every once in awhile I like to vent. :girlcrazy: :girlcrazy:

The mods here are really good and steer negative thoughts away. Which is good, we know how chats are. Hopefully the rain that is coming here will not be too bad and they can get some nice fish.

So I will just read at end of day and not peek in at cam for a bit. That is usually what I do but today, I went against the grain :gaaaaah:

thanks for all photos catwoman

Thanks for the updates, I also had to turn it off.
I guess the removal of E8 & renesting threw E7 off... then again, there was rivalry before the little one left...
This seems much much worse than last year, doesn't it?
(I'm also checking here & FB before checking the cam - so thanks again!)

The consensus of the mods is that removing E8 didn't have anything to do with the bullying, and I've watched them feed several times since E8 was returned, & E7 wasn't this bad. I have a feeling its mainly because there wasn't much food brought in today & E7 was frustrated because he didn't eat every couple of hours. Hopefully, this won't continue.

Of the 3 eagle nests I monitor ... this nest has always had the most drama ... and why that is ... I just don't know ... but, it is the nest I have learned the most from and especially what eagles are really capable of ... and I love and respect them for that! And as you all do ... I really hope that E7 and E8 are able to fledge and go on to live out their lives successfully ... and that Harriet and M15 remain safe and sound ...
Here are the weekly nest notes by dadsjazz:

:15heartbeat:

Weekly Nest Notes - Home Sweet Home

Mom, Dad, E7 and E8 seemed to be settling into family life with well timed nest duty exchanges and food deliveries. Many familiar and some not so recognizable prey items were brought to the nest by both Harriet and M15. E7 and E8 eagerly scurried for their share of the meal. Competition was lively with E7 getting the major portions of the meal as it happens with siblings. E8 was learning valuable lessons in how to get in there and get a share of the feedings. E7 and E8’s fight for survival began with their first breaths.
Eagle Life consists of daily challenges and this week was no exception. E8 was visibly less mobile in the nest and further viewing determined that E8’s leg and foot were tethered to moss in the nest bowl with string or possibly fishing line. Mom and Dad both noticed there was something wrong and attempted to free E8 by pulling nest material away from E8’s foot. For the remainder of the day E8 was able to get some bites of food from Mom and Dad but was mostly immobile. The views from the cameras showed E8 in distress and Florida and US Wildlife authorities were contacted. These concerns put in motion an authorized rescue of E8 from the nest by CROW wildlife clinic with the help of LCEC’s lift truck. The disruption of an active Eagle’s nest can be a harrowing experience. Tensions were high, Harriet fled from the nest as the truck approached and nervously circled above the tree. E8 had to be cut free from the nest and was then taken back to the CROW clinic. As suspected, there was monofilament fishing line wrapped around E8’s leg and foot cutting off circulation causing swelling. E8 was treated for 3 days then cleared for release back to the nest which was equally stressful for Mom and Dad. After the renesting of E8, Mom finally settled back into the nest and Dad delivered a welcome home fish. E7 even graced E8 with a welcome bonk while being placed back in the nest. For now all appears to be home sweet home.
The age of camera viewing is bittersweet. We are awestruck by the beauty and miracles of nature and saddened to witness the perils and fragility that exists. Seeing first hand that what we discard may have destroyed a precious life can be a lesson learned in no better way. Eagles sit atop the food chain in their world and we humans are their biggest threat. We can resolve to be more conscientious stewards of nature preserving it with all our abilities. Beautiful video of M15 coming to nest last night to help Harriet shelter the eaglets in the storm.

A fish was finally brought to the nest but feeding didn't start right away. The parent left the nest. Wonder why--its not like she had to get a knife & fork! :teehee: Now she's back & feeding E7. Lets hope E8 also gets to eat!

Image

Edit: That little jerk! E8 was laying on the edge of the nest, head down. E7 had taken a bite, looked around, saw E8 clear at the edge of the nest, then had to leave his meal to take 3 steps to peck at E8!
:furious:

There are actually 2 fish in the nest, but no more feeding going on. E7 wasn't fed much & E8 was fed none. I'd like to think that the parent is trying to teach E7 that if he's going to be bad, he won't be fed.

I was hoping that when both fish arrived back to back, there would be a tandem feed. That didn't happen. From the discussion on chat, it sounds like this was brunch, as there was no breakfast. E7 got a few bites and E8 got none. Looks hot in the nest. Hope little E8 doesn't dehydrate. Wonder why the parents are not feeding. :14val:
