Thanks SWINK.

I do not understand what is the matter with people. We may not like what we see but we also realize that it is nature. I sometimes read the chat and shake my head. there is enough food. those moderators are truly a godsend to this site. If you cannot watch, turn off, which I did.

People were specifically told not to contact these authorities. but some , just do nto understand. :girlcrazy: :girlcrazy: :girlcrazy:

but I am delighted to see E8 was well stuffed today :7val:

Full crops, chicks behave & peace.
The eagle parents know how it works with kids.

Some people who couldn't control their emotions to starting making a fuss did not: Shame on them...

Looks nice & peaceful today. Both chicks have nice crops and the transformation in E8 is amazing. Hard to believe that 2 days ago this little chick was so traumatized by its sibling that it cowered whenever touched, even by a parent and was so fearful to eat. Not today. Mom did some nestorations and digging right next to E8 and his head was held high while he snapped at any leftovers she pulled from the basement. Such a sweetie. Once again, E7 has a huge crop and is too busy snoozing. :12val:

:snowflake2: Absolutely, Ferenz!

This was posted to CROW's FB page approx. 11:46am:
CROW continues to receive numerous questions regarding why we cannot remove E8 from its nest at Southwest Florida Eagle Cam. Dr. Barron, hospital director at CROW, has provided a statement below that we hope will answer some of your questions.
"Siblicide is well known among bald eagles with the smaller eaglet generally disappearing between the third and eighth week in most surveys. Some research data shows that less than 10% of hatched eaglets will survive to reach maturity. Siblicide is an adaptive behavior that increases survival chances for both the parents and the remaining sibling. This is what natures intends and humans interfering with this upsets the balance of nature. CROW is not allowed to intervene in normal eagle behavior, which includes siblicide. Federal permission was sought to remove the eaglet from the nest previously and was granted based on the eaglet being entangled in a man-made line. E8 was always smaller than E7 and rivalry existed between the two prior to CROW’s intervention last week. While it is hard to watch, it ensures survival of the fittest and permission from U.S. FWS will not be granted to CROW to intervene in this display

AEF president Al Cecere squelching E8 rumors! What people misconstrue and get started sometimes.:suchdrama: Found this posted to SWFEC FB:

Hopefully this helps clear up a rumor that has been passed around:
Official Statement from AEF President, Al Cecere:
"Greetings to the followers and supporters of SWFEC and all eagle cam enthusiasts!
It was brought to the American Eagle Foundation's attention that many concerned individuals have been stating that the AEF wants to rescue E8 from its SWFL nest. It has also been stated that we are actively asking people to call the USFWS to put pressure on them to let us complete this rescue.
We wanted to quell these rumors and ensure everyone that this is not true. Whatever information that is being passed around must have been the result of a misinterpretation/misunderstanding.
The AEF only considers intervening with wild nests when there is an absolute need or direct imminent danger that is acknowledged by the USFWS. It is always best for an Eaglet to be raised by its wild parents if possible.
That said, AEF is always willing to offer rehabilitation to any bird of prey in need of it, and is always willing to help an eaglet that needs to be rehabilitated and introduced back into the wild in the most non-intrusive way, such as through the AEF’s Eaglet Hacking Program (Eaglet Hacking is the process of introducing an eaglet into the wild with little to no direct human interaction in a natural setting from a undisturbed nesting tower).
Initially, when the eaglet was in danger (due to line wrapped around its ankle) and was taken to CROW for rehabilitation, AEF reached out to the USFWS and offered the services of its Hacking Program, but only if the eaglet needed extensive rehabilitation and would not be able to return to the nest in a timely manner. After USFWS thanked the AEF for their offer and informed them that the eaglet was well enough to be placed back in the nest, the AEF was thrilled to hear that it would not need any subsequent human intervention and is not planning to pursue the matter further unless specifically requested by the USFWS.
The AEF is always excited to hear about the success of any wild nest. We are all rooting for E8 and this newly bonded pair!
Respectfully,
Al

Thanks for sharing this SWINWK. Sometimes we humans have a hard time watching nature, but what Al explains is really the best!

Quiet evening at the nest. Harriet is sleep-standing directly over E8 while E7 is more off to the side. I don't see the flying swarm of, what looked like mosquitoes that I saw earlier in the week. Harriet and the chicks are getting a restful sleep tonight. Perhaps the damp weather a few days back brought out the biting bugs. Glad to see it's not a nightly occurrence. :girlyes:

I am surprised to read that some people actually contacted authorities about the sibling rivalry. There was only one day when E8 wasn't able to eat, which is hard to see but isn't life-threatening. It was very upsetting & I did vent about it here, but I certainly wouldn't have made a "stink" about it. I have a feeling the letter-writers were newbies that don't understand that wildlife doesn't follow the same rules as humans. The mods repeated again & again that this was normal eaglet behavior, so they can't be faulted.

Just glad that things are looking up here & we can once again watch the cam peacefully!

I think you are right about the newbies, Nancy.
And BCAW is the perfect place to vent frustrations. :furious: We all do it at some point.

Agreed. :attention: Hard to believe people went so far as to contact authorities. Those that are new to watching the cams may be projecting human feelings into the mix. Obviously, no decent human being would allow one of their own kids to beat up on a sibling to the point of potential starvation and death. People feel a sense of compassion and empathy. However, this is a wild animal in nature, where survival of the fittest is the norm. The strongest and most cunning survive to pass on their good genes to the next generation. It ensures the best survival for the species as a whole. If this bird could not find a way to survive in the nest, it was not going to survive very long on its own in the wild where it will be challenged on a daily basis.

Harriet on nest, E8 in submissive pose, E7 looking around.

Posted on banner:
Currently On The Nest: Harriet
Hatch dates: E7 1/26; E8 1/27. E8 rescued 2/9 by CROW, line removed, returned to nest 2/12. Feedings: E7-10:32a,11:27a, E8- 10:47am.

(Oh, I agree! One little comment on FB can cause panic! The first time I saw rivalry (on an osprey nest), thought I'd have a nervous breakdown! Unfortunately, some don't READ!
The best article I found about it was by Eric Greene (Montana Osprey Project, it's the one that begins, "This is not a Disney Movie..." You've probably all read it! Excellent info.).

M15 just fed E7 with E8 getting bonked and being submissive. Dad suddenly started alarm calling and E7 actually did a face plant!! :nervous: Didn't think this chick was capable of that...lol. Possible intruder, but all fine now. Mom is back in the nest and E7 is sitting upright again.

Looks like the cam site is now posting how many feeds each chick is getting. As of 4pm, E7 had six and E8 had two. E8 tried to self feed a rather large piece of fish, which woke up the older sibling and resulted in a bonking. E8 now has this fish stuck in its mouth with repeated attacks by E7. :sum7:

I think this is what you saw, Nadia. Chat said earlier that the unidentified object that E8 is picking at is a piece of skull bone from an earlier meal.
