Southwest Florida Eagle Cam

04/20 E7 took another flight around the pasture yesterday, getting stronger and confident in each flight. :eggbounce:

See VIDEO

Video by Wskrsnwings/Photo by Anja Edelman)

E7 takes flight at 8:14am and 8:58am. Perched in the pond snag, E7 keeps the crows at bay with her wings and vocal warnings. Perched in the snag adjacent to the OCT, E7 grabs a stick that is dropped while at play in the tree. Both flights were well executed as were the return landings to the attic and porch.

Saw E7 take flight and it was beautiful! Found this on chat ... apparently, the nest is showing it's age ... we may miss a cam season in the future ... if a new nest is built and I don't even want to think about one off the Pritchett property ...

bossmaam: GA all! Fine day in the pine. Looks like E7's eye is ok. I was at the nest last month and was thinking it doesn't look as healthy as last year. Hope we can get a couple more years out of it!

And this about the eye:

Lisa De: Does 7 have an eye injury? Or did? I thought it looked like it yesterday.

GinnyLWI: It seemed to be an irritant of some kind Lisa

From Eagleholic (TwizzKid):
Last night part of the nest at the Southwest Florida eaglecam fell. Luckily the eaglets are old enough that it isn’t a serious problem. Eaglet E7 officially fledged a few days ago, and E8 is expected to fledge soon, so both are in good shape as far as handling the smaller nest area, although I heard they were looking a bit quizzical about where the rest of their nest went. :)

:egg15: Thanks bonbon! Little did I know when I posted the above about the decline of the nest (thought it could be important to keep in mind for the future) that they would face this dilemma within a few short hours! I don't know how to bring pics over and make them stay as sometimes they are gone within 24 hours, but maybe you can get an idea of the actual damage to this nest. From what I've read it has continued to fall!!!

That's terrible, but I'm glad the eagle family is ok.

Is the tree falling apart, or is it still in good shape? It seemed like there weren't a whole lot of supporting branches to begin with.

As far as I know the tree is okay, but some of the branches that made the veranda I think were missing this year. A curious thing I saw on FB is someone wanting Lowes to help rebuild the nest for the eagles ... so glad you all can't hear me when I get tickled!!! :teehee:

There was a nest in Arizona that had to be torn down a few years ago. They replaced it with framework to give the eagles a head start on rebuilding. There's a documentary about it on YouTube called Eagle Nest Reborn. It's a fascinating story!

:egglaugh": I don't know vlu328 ... I sure wouldn't want to be a Lowes workman with Harriet supervising ... A key difference may be a nest having to be torn down as opposed to a nest coming down on it's own ...
