Thanks, Kitten. Poor little guy. I'm just glad he was found so he has a chance at recovery. He's a tough guy, so hopefully he will pull through.

What a rough start in life this poor bird has had. So glad it was found and is being treated. Thanks for the updates. It appears the bird vlu posted about, which was a 1/2 mile from the nest on Monday with a possible broken leg was probably E8. It's believed the attack was by a Great Horned Owl. They are large owls and the injury does not surprise me due to the force that they pounce with when catching prey. Hoping for the best.

Update on E8:

Latest from CROW - Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inc. : E8 had a successful surgery earlier today to repair the femur fracture. A pin was inserted to hold the bone in place and the eagle awoke with no complications. E8 still remains in critical care and will remain on strict cage rest. They will have an update on Monday. Thank you all for your continued support!

That's what I came here to post. I'm very relieved that he survived the surgery! I wasn't sure he was strong enough to survive being anesthesized.

He is one tough eaglet. Thank you for all the updates.

That was a wonderful video of E8's rescue--thanks for posting it, Gigi! I am so, so glad they were able to find him & rescue him before he deteriorated any further. He also had to be in a lot of pain. When I read about rescues like this & all the people who were praying for this baby, it restores my faith in human beings!

I too was very concerned for her catwoman! She was a week out from a major fracture and it sounds as if she did not have food/H2O. We know the end results for Ozzie in this situation, however youth is a tremendous "positive" in her favor! I know things can go south in a hurry, however I am now a little more hopeful for her than I was prior to the surgery. I am relieved her leg was not hanging by a tendon. I thought they would euthanize her with that scenario.
Thanks for finding this Gigi! As you can see ... she still has a sparkle in her eyes ... and this too makes me more hopeful!!!

this what we can hope for. wonderful young people like this with a love of nature, going above and beyond. I sometimes worry, hta some of us been avid watchers and rescuers etc. fo r years, and what will happen when we can no longer do it. this has really restored my faith

E8 Update on the CROW Facebook page:

"E8 has been quiet, alert and responsive and has not regurgitated any food the last couple of days and was fed soft pieces of rat today. E8 was observed to be hock sitting and for the remainder of the time is in the prone position (laying flat with the chest down and back up) and has been moved to a larger enclosure to encourage movement. Although positive signs, E8 is still receiving pain medication and remains in critical and guarded condition. Thanks for your endless support."

Very interesting, the women sure know (and love) their wildlife!

Such remarkable young women that rescued E8. Kudos to them! Here is an update from yesterday with pics of E8's condition from the webcam's Facebook page.

“Today, E8 received a second radiograph (x-ray) since the eaglets operation on Saturday, May 14. E8’s condition was upgraded to guarded based on blood work and clinical condition but
protein levels are still dangerously low. The fracture site and pin placement from the surgery look good and today E8 was able to stand and walk normal but still spends a majority of time down and sleeping.

The eaglet is responding to intensive care and is moving from a predominately liquid diet to a soft solids diet. Body weight has increased but E8 still remains extremely thin.

Although E8 still has a lengthy recovery, it was encouraging that the eaglet was willing to bear weight on its leg and use its foot and claw in a normal fashion which indicates normal nerve function.

We will have the next update available on Monday.”
