2 nests
north side #1 and east side #2

Jan 19, 2017
- Shepnotes
2.14 am Mr hooting repeatedly
4.05 am Mr making his coming grunts, hoots close by.
He makes this sound when he is coming and/or when he has prey
4.20 am Mr grunting more distant, huuu hu hu
4.34 am That gargly hoot sounds like Mr. has prey, but he is not close
4.37 am Mr T landed on rail of north, egg nest and grunted, sat half a minute and left - no prey
4.42 am Mr low hoot still near
4.46 am Mr drops silently into east nest #2 with prey, grunting / clucking, then hoots his low hu hu repeatedly
His crop is FULLLLL so prey must be for her
4.53 am He picks prey up, gets on rim of planter, flies to rail, hooting and hooting
I do NOT hear her at all
4.56 am I heard her squawk, food beg - maybe - very faint
4.57 am He's gone to her with the prey - hooted elsewhere
6.06 am Mr soft hoot

One of the owls visited about 7 pm Jan 18
I thot it was Mrs but mods said it was Mr

Thanks Shep. I had a chance to check the cam last night to find Mr. T occupying the east plantar after dark, doing some digging. Apparently, there are several balconies on this house with planters and cameras. The planter he is currently working on is where successful broods were raised in the past. However, if this plantar is on the east side of the house, it probably faces the street. We'll see if Altera agrees with Mr. T's choice of nest location.

:8snowflake: Great catch Loza. I was unfamiliar with Rusty and Iris, but I have done a bit of reading about them and looked at many of their videos over the years. What a sweet couple! They sought each other out when they were in rehab with other owls and have been very close ever since. Whenever they've been separated for any length of time for medical care, their reunions seem to demonstrate joy in being reunited again....so touching. :loveheart2:

Last night, I witnessed a canoodle hours before the one you captured in your video. Iris has been staying very close to the nest, so I think an egg is coming. The website does not indicate what they will be doing with the eggs for the 2017 season.

Well that is a hopeful sign Thanks Loza. Altera spent quite some time in the plantar, digging and trying it on for size. She hasn't been seen at the plantar much until now, but it would have taken a few weeks to get back in egg production mode. Time will tell.

Landings cam, Savannah Georgia
I didn't see any sign of the owls this weekend....Hmmmm.

Rusty & Iris
I would think another egg is on the way. Iris was not too interested in food last night when I checked in. These two are so sweet and Rusty is such a good husband. Thanks for the pics Loza.

- Shepnotes
2.40 am Squawk
4.23 am I heard her talons land on the rail but no hoot and I couldnt see her - Then I saw her at the far far end behind yucca, barely visible
4.24 am She flew to nest, dug in it, scraping bottom
4.28 She left - no hooting, no vocal at all from either owl
5.20 am squawk

She was so nervous, if she lays an egg I'll be surprised,
if she sets it I'll be shocked

Savannah GA..

Last year our first egg was 1/23 ...
Dang-Not seeing the owls as much as we
should if we are going to have eggs soon.
Maybe the different arrangement is not
going to work for 2017 nesting ...

:loveheart2: Awww...isn't she a sweetie? I understand that they got a glimpse of the egg over the weekend, but it is not easy to see. It is very deep in the nest.
