:thankyou Woo hoo....Egg 2! :newegg: :newegg: I wonder if Rusty has seen his eggs yet? It's been cold there with temps in the 30's and Iris doesn't seem to leave the eggs for long. Last night it was 33 degrees, and I saw her off them to preen for only 10 minutes during the time I watched.

GHOs in Charlo, Montana.
http://explore.org/live-cams/player/gre ... ed-owl-cam

This is the address to their nest last year. Right now (actually, picture below was taken yesterday) they are sitting close to their former nest. As you can see, visibility is not great; lots of branches obscure the view. Somebody claims that the female, on the left, has a brood patch (I am not sure if it is really visible). They fly sometimes to the osprey nest, but it seems probable that they will settle in their old place.

2nd clutch - is there an egg?
January 26
- Shepnotes
3.25 am Altera is in the planter clucking
Chat said she came about 1 am - I am assuming there is an egg or will be soon
3.54 am She is very calm laying in the nest - of course its very quiet - no roaring cars, trucks, dogs and kids yet
5 am She has not moved except her head. If there is an egg, she has not rolled it.
5.13 - Maybe she IS rolling her egg, just not showing us or turning around.
I have heard Mr hooting in the distance periodicly
5.14 am Of course she got up and turned around just as I typed that - you stinker!
She turned her tail to me, fussed around, then faced me again, then did that wiggle birds do settling back on an egg

NO EGG!!
YOU TEASE!

5.52 am She got up and flew to him. Mating - fertilze quick!
7.07 am Mating - off cam

Dont feel bad - I was sure she was on an egg too!

Thanks Shep. I would be very surprised if OKC sees another clutch in a planter at the house. Mr. T seems to have a bride that is very unsure of the nesting arrangements at the house. She does not come to the nest to get food from Mr. T, nor does she come when he repeatedly calls for her. She may not have been raised in an urban environment.

Thanks Loza for the pics of Iris and Rusty. I have yet to get a glimpse of those eggs. They are so deep in the nest and she is very tight on them with temps below freezing. I have yet to find info about whether they will allow the eggs to hatch. This past year, Iris and Rusty have not been bothered by wild owls in the area and Rusty has not had to do much in the way of territorial defense. So, maybe they will allow these eggs to hatch. Does anyone know for sure?

hi Nadia
Mr T is not bonded with this mate.
She is so likely a first time nester
and instinct only goes so far
they say the male choses several nest spots and the female makes the final pick.
I DONT KNOW if thats true.
It quiet enuf at nite there but NOT in the day
I've wondered if Mr would pick a new mate.
A couple ppl thot they heard a 3rd owl
who knows
I dont eggspect an egg this year
after all - its odd any owl'd ever nest there!

Yes, the male does pic several nest sites that he shows the female. She makes the final decision. Given that one owl has already been shot in front of their house, which is on a cul de sac, I would feel better if the owls nested somewhere else...in the woods...away from this location...away from people...no offense to anyone here or Allessondra. Just my opinion.

Just found out that Iris and Rusty's eggs were replaced with fake eggs. State and Federal permits will not allow release of the owlets to the wild and the International Owl Center does not want to raise owlets, only to have them remain in captivity, which makes sense. Soooooo.....these eggs will not hatch.
