6.13 am Lady has turned her egg, fought with a stick,
and is calling, whining, chirping for the President to take egg duty
She finally flew off leaving the egg alone a few minutes - then returned.
She doesnt know today is a holiday - Presidents Day

First egg for Mr. Preident and The First Lady at the Washington DC AEF nest at the National Arboretum

I have been checking the B-ville nest lately and have not been keeping tabs on ours as I would wish. Reports from watchers on all sites appears to be that Freedom has been incubating the eggs for the majority of the time for the past 2 days. We have been seeing an intruder approach the nest and chases occurring for over a week now. I have always felt that it is a good thing if the eagle being chased flees. But, it kept coming back.
I thought the one doing the chasing was Freedom, but since all are reporting he is the one on the nest, it must be Liberty.
Yesterday, the property owner was sitting very near the woods when she saw two eagles flying and screaming through the fields and even through the trees of the nest woods. As she watched, both birds mounted high into the sky, locked talons and fell flogging each other with their wings. They parted and did it again. Then, one bird broke off the engagement and fled across the fields toward Black Rock with the other in full pursuit.
I did look in on the cam when Debbie Hoxtner Shoffner suggested before going out this morning and agree that Liberty appears to have some injuries. They do not appear to be serious as I saw her flying well. They do appear to now being exchanging nest duties again. Around 11, Becky Norris and I watched as the incubating bird rose and stood on the nest rim for a bit before flying to the Sentinel Tree. From there, that bird flew out and greeted the incoming eagle. The incoming bird went to the nest and the one who had been brooding the eggs perched in the Sentinel Tree for 1/2 hour before I left. The photo below was taken just before I left the marina. Both birds present.
Doug Noble reported that minutes later, the eagle did a fly-over at the Marina.

Those aerial battles always scare me. Glad is seems Liberty is okay. Hope the intruder got the message and has left the area.

I will post a wee video later today as it is so clear. you can see the eagles through the treed. Both were just there and one flew off. of course when leaves come out we will depend on ground crew.

You are right! Getting my nests mixed up. that is a picture of the first egg at the Carbon TvBeulah nest in Michigan. I have removed it and put it in the right place! :girlcrazy:
