Video: Old Garry Oak with Destroyed Nest

Here is the old Garry Oak, in which the Sidney Bald Eagles nested for several years. It was destroyed in a storm on April 1. Sadly, the bird nests under this nest were also destroyed. Starlings usually take up residency here. All of their eggs and/or chicks were lost.

At least one of the microphones is still working, and if you turn up your sound, you will hear a some eagle cries in the distance and the songs of a few brave birds who managed to survive.

You're welcome, Susan. I was very fond of that nest. As it's in their territory, the eagles will probably fly there to perch.

I have been just devastated by the loss of the nest. Words can not describe it. It is just a nest but what a nest.
It brought so many people together in the interests of nature. It held the hopes and dreams of so many eaglets and when ma and Pa decided to build a new nest, they used this one for a dining table.
this is where I go to watch them fledge .

but if I know these eagles they will try and build something there. they love to build.

The new nest is in a dead tree but it is more protected where it is.
I have been on the phone with my family to make sure they were O.K. Dad went up to check his house which he is selling and thankfully all is well. they just lost power and phones, but winds were terrific. My family is in between Sdiney and Nanaimo , which go hit the hardest.
My brother says it wiped a marina a few miles from him.

The eagles survived and that is the main thing. A friend and her husband went out to the site today and saw both eagles and they are fine. She is Elle on the forum , who goes out and takes pcitures and videos there.

bev, I'm glad your family had no property damage from the storm. Glad to hear that someone sighted both eagles. :spingirl:

Oh that was so sad to watch. :sosad It is surprising that a parent was not closer by to fend the raven off.
