From Charlo:
ORI Liberty Mod • 2 days ago Hello All!
As you can clearly see, we’ve taken some steps to influence this year’s breeding season. In case you don’t know the nest history here, since 2016, this platform was the breeding season home of Ospreys Charlotte and Charlie. Last year, however, a pair of geese claimed the platform before their return and C & C found a nearby platform to settle on. We moved the cam closer to observe them from a distance, but it sure wasn’t the same experience.
Given the number of geese in the area and given the many possible nesting locations for them – countless manmade platforms, pond banks, suitable ground nests, water platforms, and the like, the geese have a seemingly limitless number of options. Not so for the Osprey.
This Osprey platform has provided joy, entertainment and, most importantly, education. Education is at the heart of every Explore cam and, if you follow ORI at all, you know that our belief in long-term research runs deep. There is much to learn from the long-term monitoring of a returning pair. And, admittedly, C & C have a special place in our hearts.
All that being said, maybe C & C will decide they like the other platform better, after all. Maybe they’ll choose to nest there instead of this original spot. We’ll wait and see. Our plan is to remove the basket when their return time draws near – which, of course, is coming up soon!
I’m sure some will not agree with the actions we’ve taken. That’s ok and we respect your opinion. But based on our cam objectives and the wishes of the landowner, this is the decision that has been made.
Enjoy!
