Both nest boxes have been removed from the bridge due to an ongoing maintenance program. It was announced today that new boxes are being erected atop buildings in Houghton and Hancock.

"Today a group of people from Copper Country Audubon, Michigan DNR and MTU (Michigan Technical University) have placed a new box on top of the North edge of the EERC building on the MTU campus. This box has a webcam up and running already. It may take a day or two for that webcam feed to show up on the MTU Webcam page. The local Peregrines have not been reported to be back but they are due any day.

Hopefully, a 2nd Peregrine box will be placed within a week on the SE face of the Quincy Shafthouse."

The Quincy copper mine is just north of the Lift Bridge in Hancock. The MTU campus is in Houghton, south and east of the Lift Bridge.

There are two pictures of the new nest box accompanying this announcement, which appeared on the Google Group blog for Copper Country Birding, that I'm unable to share here. If someone is a member of this blog, perhaps they can retrieve the photos.

Let's all pray the falcons find the new nest boxes, and do not try laying eggs on the bridge! Fingers crossed for a successful nesting season!

I had an email from Michael regarding the Armentières nest in France. Cam had been off line but 4th egg was laid 3/15.
