Very strong, fledge from CJ this morning at the Chesapeake Bay nest of Calico Tom and Audrey!! She has returned to her nest since and continues to leave and return as she pleases.

The "Sokol" Association in the Anwil Health Town at the Hall of Champions in Wloclawek on August 21, 2021

Anwil SA, the sponsor of the "Sokol" Association, invited us to a health event. There were: lectures, interviews, competitions for adults in the knowledge of falcons and painting competitions for children. There were material prizes and a picture with a falcon. Great promotion of falcons in the region.

Wow, loza!! That had to be thrilling for you. What a wonderful event. I was so curious as to why they would include falcons and it sent me on a adventure to find out. It was a long read on "Wikipedia". Here are some excerpts of some of the things I found out:

"The Sokol movement (Czech: [sokol], falcon) is an all-age gymnastics organization first founded in Prague in the Czech region of Austria-Hungary in 1862 by Miroslav Tyrs and Jindrich-Fugner. It was based upon the principle of "a strong mind in a sound body". The Sokol, through lectures, discussions, and group outings provided what Tyrs viewed as physical, moral, and intellectual training for the nation. This training extended to men of all ages and classes, and eventually to women."

"In 1882, the first slet was held.[2] Slet came from the Czech word for "a flocking of birds" (Czech plural: slety) since the organization carried the name for falcon, Sokol."

"A Sokol flag, red with a white falcon, was designed by the writer Karolina Svetla (and painted by Czech artist Josef Manes)."

"Bohemian, Moravian, and Slovak immigrants and Czech-American citizens started the American Sokol Organization in St. Louis Missouri in 1865, only three years after the first Prague Sokol. Units quickly formed and by 1878, the United States had 13 Sokol chapters."

Thanks, old times, unknown. We in Poland also have our history.
The father Czeslaw Sielicki

of today's Sielicki brothers, who continue the wonderful work of their father,
had a great contribution.
One of them is Mr. Slawomir - he is the one with the falcon who gives the interview,
he is the one who rings almost all young falcons in Poland.
