Preliminary results in on cause of death for eaglets HH3 and HH4 of Hilton Head Island nest. From site:

"3/5/2022 10:30 am: We have received the initial, but not final results, that the eaglets cause of death was the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza ("HPAI") commonly seen in wild birds. Once we receive the final results, we will post an update."

We have at least 6 turkey farms in Indiana that are experiencing avian flu and the entire flocks are being euthanized. I am just waiting for it to hit the bird rehab where I volunteer.

Gigi, I've been using this link to find out what counties and states it has been confirmed. If you want to see for commercial and backyard, select that photo. If you want to see for wild birds, select that photo. I know in Brevard County, Florida (possibly last month) the Salty and Pepper eagle nest (monitored nest not on cam) was possibly entirely wiped out. Do not know what the official test results were. The Mom (Pepper) and 2 eaglets were found dead. Salty (Dad) had been missing for several days. Will see if I can find that today and if so, will swing back and add it here. The Salty and Pepper nest I learned about from others, not through this link.

Edit to add: Believe sample from Pepper was sent on 2/24 or thereabouts. Results will take weeks it was reported.

GA is holding its breath as its a huge poultry state. So far, so good...but, probably a matter of time. Many restrictions already in place because of this outbreak. Hope it works.
