Toledo - DEF says the white egg was a leftover from last year. Therefore, scratch the first one in the calendar.

FYI for those that follow the South Bend nest of Maltese and Flash. There is a female intruder and I have not seen Maltese since about 8:30 am. Last season her 1st egg was laid 1 year ago from tomorrow. "T" alerted everyone to this intruder.

Gigi, While I am busy working on something, I came across this long article in the southbendtribune.com that originated from the Indy Star, so you may have seen this on the songbirds. To make a long story short from Indiana, they still do not know the cause of their illness last year, but are working to rule out or in Cicada related. We were just talking about this and it is fresh off the press from today.

(Yes, I am so upset about Maltese that I am about to ask the southbendtribune.com about it hoping they have contacts that will know something and maybe they'll do a write-up or not.)

Yes I did see the article. Thanks for the heads up in case I hadn't seen it. I am not a biologist or scientist of any kind, but I am not ruling out the cidadas. I heard some were infected with a "death zombie fungus" and wonder if that had something to do with the songbird problem.

The slide show pics from the article were taken a few years ago. I was horrified to see that Robert used one of me. I had a nasty t-shirt on, hadn't combed my hair and of course he got my fat profile in the picture!!! When I go to clean bird cages, it never pays to get spiffy, but I would have tried harder to look somewhat presentable! :girlcrazy:

Thanks, Gigi! Go to South Bend to see about Maltese. Did not notice the slideshow, but went back and found you working with the pigeons. I love pigeons although many don't. Used to feed them, but the neighbors were upset. I was puzzled. While my brother was visiting years ago, we stood in the bathtub to look out that window at my feeder without the neighbors being able to see us. (I worked long hours during the day and didn't always see what was going on.) We counted 72 pigeons on and around it, then they took off. Nothing quite like the sound of 72 pigeons taking off all at once in a quiet neighborhood. Plus the gifts they leave here and there. I stopped the feeds...
