Oh my- another egg sitting standoff at Woodmen! The female is looming over the male as he is on the eggs and she is perched on the edge of the nest box, He has his head tucked in so he can’t see her…

If we are reading the female's band correctly (b/r 96/D), she is the daughter of Zeus and Hera...the great pair from Woodmen. Hatch year 2011.

Very, very serious situation at Woodmen. Mom is either sick or injured badly. Eggs are scattered. She appears to be alive..but has not moved in the past few hours...even when dad came. This is not looking good.

Jean, from Facebook...(who has great connections with Nebraska DNR) has contacted Woodmen and DNR and will continue to monitor via cam.

I hope that Joel is still the biologist here..however, he is located in Lincoln, I believe. He has always gone up and rescued one of the parents or kids when they have been trapped at Lincoln. Joel is always the person that Jean calls...fingers crossed that he is still there and she can make contact with him.

I'll keep checking her FB page.

personally, if I were in that building...I'd get permission (or not), open the banding window, and grab her....but, of course, I doubt that's gonna happen.

(ps...joel was the person I contacted when we were stumped about the Topeka pair...he helped us figure it out.)

Brief update from Jean's FB page. She's messaging with NGPC (not real sure what that stands for) and they are now aware and are monitoring the situation. If it is Avian Flu, there is no treatment.
