:teehee: I just found this, wonder how long this has been up? They have a different view of the possible pip I saw earlier, but now it's not a possible pip... cause VDWR says it's a pip!!

Pipped egg VDWR is expecting a 4th chick later this evening or early tomorrow!!

OMG! When I came in I saw this strange pink thing out in front of Mom and she was trying to get it under her. It was slightly rough handling. Then she threw out part of an egg shell. I checked back and she has turned and has it under her now. The chick is moving. I am so thankful it hatched this evening. And little one, we definitely will know which one you are and you will have all our hearts!!

:15heartbeat: Mom left awhile ago and after a longer than the usual time, Dad appears and goes into the left side of nest. Looks at the chicks, then leaves. In a bit he is back and broods for awhile. Then up to the left lip and looks around, then back to brood. Finally Mom returns without food, Dad leaves and she broods. In the white pile of chicks, I only saw 3 heads and never could make out the 4th chick who must have been tucked away in the bundle. They may have been fed earlier this morning, but the rhythm feels a little off to me this season.

:15heartbeat: Heard alarm calls while I was in another room, but there was a delay before I was able to get back here and I didn't see anything. I'm wondering if there is an intruder in the area throwing them off. I heard alarm calls earlier from Dad that were in the distance this morning. Also heard some yesterday. The chicks are constantly vocal.

:eggthumb: Feed in progress! Can see all 4 chicks!! Was able to see the feed in full view initially, then it became partially to fully blocked at times. All 4 chicks plus Mom got bites. One chick was getting the lion's share. While in view I saw the 4th chick get 3 bites, but was unsure if the 1st and 3rd bites were swallowed. The feed lasted for awhile and Mom started to offer a chick a leg, but she ended up eating it and the 2nd leg later on. When the feed was over and Mom left with the remains the chicks started dropping down, then the 4th chick seemed to want more and had it's beak open. In a bit, Dad into the nest and at first stood by them, then broods. Soon Mom is back and Dad leaves. Mom broods and all the chicks are now quiet. While I was typing this, I heard soft alarm calls from Dad and went in to check. Then could tell Dad flew with his trailing alarm calls. Mom was still brooding the chicks, but tracking and looking toward the sky.

:7val: Thanks, catwoman! In the 1st capture above, the 4th chick is the one nearest the lip and the one who got the lion's share that I described in the above post of the feed is the chick nearest to it. The 4th chick's beak is not quite at the same level as the others, but it is able to get it up there. In the 2nd capture, they are in the same positions, but the 4th chick has slumped a little.

:loveheart2: Came in and Mom standing on the lip and the chick pile is in view. She left. Then back and gone again. Shortly Dad to lip. Hear squawking and Mom returns with food, Dad left and a feed is in progress! All received bites including Mom. At times it was a partially blocked feed, but did see the 4th chick get about 6 bites at least. A couple times it got turned the wrong way and also tumbled over sometimes. Mom left with the remains and eventually all chicks slumped down and are much quieter than before the feed, so I believe all are satisfied. I was waiting for Dad to come in, but Mom returned and she is currently brooding.

:15heartbeat: Heard alarm calls from Mom and sounded if on the nest? Went in and by the time I dealt with freezing and refresh, she was off the nest. In a minute or so, she returned and is standing to shield the chicks. After awhile, she settled more.

Mom Feeds and Leaves, Then Dad Arrives With Special Meal and Feeds for the First Time!!

:eggthumb: You're welcome, sky! Have been gone a bit, so may have missed something. Just now, Mom to lip and preens her leg, then leaves. Chicks in a pile and quiet. Could hear Mom's squeaky vocals, then she enters the nest with prey. Feed in progress!

It was a nice long feed and all got bites including Mom. I had freeze once and parts of the feed were only in partial view. The 4th chick got at least 6 bites that I was able to see. It faced the wrong direction 4-5 times, but always gets turned around the right way, it fell at least 4 times, and once on it's back, but always rights itself right away. Sometimes the push and grind of the chicks around you are too much for a little one to maintain balance when trying to stretch up for food. This little one is strong. They were starting to slump towards the end.

After the feed was over officially, Mom picked up bits of scraps that hit the floor and fed to them or herself. Then they quiet and she starts to brood. Dad vocals at 6:34 real time and Mom leaves.

He comes into the nest the next minute with prey! He is trying to feed feathers right now. Then Dad is feeding itty-bitty bites of meat! Had some freeze, but not all were up for the feed the whole time. Dad left with the remains at 6:45, then returned at 6:47 and picked up a scrap from the floor and maybe dropped it. He left again. Chicks are in a pile and fairly quiet. He returned at 6:50 and picked up maybe the same piece off the floor dropped it and left again.

Mom back at about 6:51 and picks up that same piece and drops it to the floor, then broods. All is well! During the feed I noticed 2 ant trails on top of the lip, one coming and one going. The cleaning crew has arrived!

:nosun: Rain started abruptly a few minutes ago, it almost sounded like sleet. Maybe because it hits the metal topped parapet. It startled Mom initially. I see rain drops on her. It may have stopped already.

:eggthumb: Feed in progress! Well that wasn't easy to tell who got what even though it was in full view. They were all VERY eager to eat and I wondered if this may have been the 1st feed this morning? Lots of stumbling and tumbling by almost all! But, all got bites.

The 4th chick started in a bad position at the back and turned the wrong way, then all the stumbles and tumbles by many and itself causing it to be underneath another chick or down and out of sight in the middle of the pile. The 4th chick finally made it to the front and eventually got 4 bites which is great, because I honestly thought it would receive none this time.

When over and Mom left with the large remains, all still seemed to want more. She returned to the front of the lip with her back to us and went onto the chicks, I thought to brood, but she actually had the remains still and it looked like she plopped it on top of them and then turned and left with the remains again. One of them and I think it may have been chick 4 fell onto its back as she left, but eventually righted itself. She returned again, this time without the remains and broods and all are quiet now.

:15heartbeat: Heard low key alarm vocals, came in and it looked to be Mom doing it as she broods. She looked around and toward the skies, then quiet.

:eggthumb: Heard falcon chatter between Mom and Dad, came in and Mom is just in with prey. Feed in progress! Well 1st she defeathers and it is a mainly blocked view of the feed. Not sure who got what, but did see chick 4 get at least 2 bites. She must of fed all of it, because she didn't leave to store it. Mom broods and all is quiet again.
