:7val: Steve did a touch and go basically to the nest earlier today and chirping the whole time. But, at least we got to see him!

:7val: Steve stopped by the nest again this morning and this time with a fish!. No takers, but Poppy said there was an osprey circling in the background. Unknown if it was Callie or another osprey. He did not stay more than a moment.

:7val: It's official: Dory and Skiff are the names chosen for Mr. and Mrs. Boat House!! Congrats Dory and Skiff!! So glad you chose the Boat House nest for your home! :7val:

Attention cam fans, the wait is over, and here is the official announcement: The Boat House Osprey couple names are......Dory and Skiff! These two names were the favorites (voted on by all of you), and what an adorable pair of names to have, too......matching boat names! Coincidentally, choosing these two names also matches the naming theme used for buildings on Hog Island as well, since nautical boat terms are used as names for the buildings there (Porthole, Bridge, Bosun’s Locker, Crow’s Nest, etc.). GOOD JOB, EVERYONE, and a thank you to chat member mrsmo for the great (and decidedly popular) name suggestions!

:eggthumb: Steve visited the nest early this morning. Found this on chat and although it is from a year ago August, it is a nice pic of Bailey and Smegley (Bailey is one of Steve's and Rachel's gals that was injured from seasons past and was not releasable. She now lives with Smegley who is also not releasable.):

:CLAPS: Finally the dust has settled and Explore has re-opened the chat after having had to close it down over the weekend d/t the continued ruckus there. I know osprey were seen on Steve's nest this morning, but in reading elsewhere they do not believe one of them was Steve. Also, I saw a couple at the Boathouse nest and they seem to be accustomed to each other just as the one's at the Hog Island nest, so may be the same couple. Possibly there will be updates/clarifications from the mod at site coming later today...We are within the timeframe of Steve's normal return to Hog Island!

:dancegirl: So glad I decided to go back in and check one more time! Look what I found:

Poppy Mod • 2 minutes ago
Dory and Skiff returned yesterday to the Boathouse nest. Skiff might have been around a few days earlier. However, the light conditions weren't great for a proper ID.
This morning, Callie returned to the HI nest at 7:05 am, with a strange osprey male. It looks like it was the same one that confused us at the end of last season. Steve showed up at 8:25 am and wasted no time. He and Callie had a mating attempt on the perch, shortly after. Here's hope for a successful season, this year!

:5val: Welcome home Steve and Callie and Skiff and Dory!! :5val:

:girlsad3: Have not seen Steve nor Callie on the nest or stick for at least 3 days if not 4. The Explore chat was shut down again on Monday, so no observations reported by others.

:eggthumb: Dory and Skiff continue care of their 3 eggs. Earlier this week, I saw Dory continuing to get upset with the boaters as they come and go, but I don't think she has remained off the eggs for long periods because of it as she did last season. I've even seen her stay and just fuss sometimes.

:5val: Bailey update with photos and sad news on Smedley her mate :sorrow: by Rory a chatter who went to visit:

Also, wanted to add I have still not seen Steve nor Callie as per my previous post, however a reliable chatter posted I think it was Steve he saw on May 23rd. The chat remains down d/t poor behavior and there is a new mod that doesn't update frequently and when she does it is on the Boat House nest.

They are doing fine and continue to incubate that I can see checking more than once per day. I have looked to see if Dory is doing better with incubation this year and she is. While she still sometimes leaves if she gets nervous when people are at the dock, she leaves later and returns quicker than last year. No long periods without incubation.

The new mod doesn't seem to understand the significance of the Hog Island nest of Steve and Callie, but probably through no fault of her own. Chat will open for a Q&A tomorrow evening and I'm sure people have sent questions on Steve and Callie such as have they built a nest elsewhere, are they still seen in the area and hopefully she will be prepared and address that situation.

:7val: She did address the absence of Steve and Callie from the Hog Island nest and at least we know he is alive and well! Update from maeve_audubon Mod, from last evenings Q&A:

"Recently, Hog Island staff provided me with this exciting update about Steve! Although he's no longer nesting in his on-camera site, he has been spotted at a nest on nearby Long Cove. Here's a statement from the Senior Manager of Public Programs at Hog Island:

A few weeks ago Steve and his new mate started building a new nest farther down Long Cove on Hog Island. We have watched them build their nest and display courtship behavior. The Long Cove nest is a short walk from the previous camera operated nest and is marked on the attached map."

Map

"Also here are a few photos from Friends of Hog Island volunteer Kathy Lena from last week."

Steve and Callie mating.

Steve and Callie's new nest.

:dancingegg: Finally a definite pip at the Boat House nest of Dory and Skiff!! Look at somewhere around 57 or 58 minutes ago or thereabouts. It is on the egg with the 2 white areas and the well cracked pip is very near that part. You can only catch it for less than a split second, but it's there. They will not restore the sound here till after the season when the repairs can be made. At this point Explore continues the chat shutdown, but hoping they will open some for the hatch as it helps with catching the times of specific events.

:7val: :hatchegg: A hatch for Dory and Skiff!! Sorta, the shell is caught! It comes mostly off and then back down again. I think this is Dory and she seems a little frantic. Will have to go back to review later as I lost sight of who is who with the close ups and coming out to post. If Dory, there was also someone on the dock getting into a boat, which is also a stressful time for her. :7val:
