We have one hatch, and according to Utica Facebook, another pip. If you want a chuckle watch the well- meaning male, Ares, try to keep track of his three eggs and a chick as he tries to keep everyone warm.

Sadly Utica has lost one of its hatched chicks when it got tangled with the mom as she flew out of the nest… :tissue:

Two chicks are thriving at Utica, Parents are bringing in plenty of prey, with mom usually wanting to feed them. I don’t think these get banded, but the Utica followers have named them “Niles” and “Amelia” :loveheart:

Ares ( Unbanded resident male) is dutifully checking out the nestbox to make sure it’s ready for his lady love, Astrid, also unbanded. This pair has a strong Facebook following of locals, who make note of the happenings of each day. A fun nest to follow…

Utica had a banded female intruder yesterday. The moderator said that the resident male, Ares “danced with her In the Nestbox” for a short while. Astrid, the resident female came zooming to the nestbox, and the intruder flew away…Ares tried to bring Astrid a food gift to say he was sorry, but she would have none of it. Later in the day she did accept his food gift. They got a pretty good look at the intruders bands, and included the picture on their website.

A little update about the female intruder- she has been identified as a 2016 hatch from Rochester, Lilac, daughter of Beauty and Dot Ca, sister of Aria. (Her bands were not given)
