Well, all is quiet at the nest.
It's looking almost certain now that all four of our osprey family have left on migration.
A bittersweet time for us here. While it's sad to think that we've seen the last of these incredible birds for this year,
it's wonderful to know that Telyn and Idris have raised two strong, healthy chicks,
and given them the best possible chance of a successful first migration. We could have asked no more of them.

It's also a chance for us to look back through the pictures we captured this season,
and share some that you haven't seen. Here's one of our favourites.

Breeding female osprey NC0, who was last seen on 15 July 2023, has returned to her nest at our Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve. This will be her 5th breeding season at Lowes. She was spotted on Friday 8 March at 17:52 remaining on the nest until 18:07. She started picking up sticks to get the nest ready for the 2024 breeding season. In the past NC0 has arrived on the 28th, 25th, 23rd, 17th and this year the 8th March - a whole 9 days earlier than an already unusually early return. It’s a really interesting and unusual pattern. Generally birds are fairly consistent in their return time, and usually males arrive a good week to 10 days before their mate to pimp up the nest, although last season both the Lowes ospreys returned on the 17th March!

Breeding osprey pair reunited at Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve

Male osprey LM12 has returned to the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve on Wednesday 27 March at 16:38 for his 13th breeding season.

His mate for the past four years, female osprey NC0, arrived back on 08 March and has since been observed preparing their nest with twigs and moss. Together, the pair have fledged seven chicks, with LM12 having raised 21 chicks in total at this site. This will be LM12 and NC0’s fifth breeding season together.
