I'm so sorry. The baby was eaten.

On April 8, the first chick hatched and Scout killed it.

Hi everyone, I am working right now but after reading some of the comments here I just wanted to reassure you what we saw at this nest is NOT the norm. We rarely see this behavior on live cam yet this year it happened at two nests. Of course we feel sad and angry all at the same time because we are people. If you are feeling overwhelmed please take a break go for a walk or watch the West End nest they have three babies and all are doing well. We are watching nature in the raw so we will be blessed with many good times at these nests but occasionally we will see the ugly side. Sadly we saw the very ugly twice this week and it broke our hearts. A normal nesting season is fun loving with lots of great interaction to enjoy. Trust me i have an extensive library on most of the shenanigans that we have witnessed at this nest. It is the good times at these nests along with the friendships we made while watching these nests that support us through the difficult times we see on these nests. I will not give up on Bella and Scout (although this morning I wanted Bella to toss him out) as i believe they will continue to strengthen their bond and hopefully in the future they will go on to raise many eaglets together. It is the life cycle. I cannot explain Scout's behavior and i refuse to sugar coat it. Perhaps there is something wrong with him, I really do not know. In life we have good people and we also have some bad people, I am sure that is true in the eagle community too. Maybe Bella will choose a new mate, we just do not know. In life we have losses in our personal lives and also at these nests. Bella's sweet baby eaglet gained her wings today, and despite the sadness we feel lets focus on the beautiful interaction we saw between Bella and her sweet baby eagle. It does help. Take good care of you and i hope you will continue to watch these eagles, they have so much to offer. To our sweet little angel, I nicknamed "Chance" you are forever in our hearts, soar high and forever free little one
