Good turnout on the forum for the banding. I couldn't be here, unfortunately, but I'm glad all of you could!

Thanks for the banding info, Apollo, and for the picture, Shephard!

The drama has started already! Here is the post from the Soarin' Hawk FB page

Nail biting season has begun!
Tom (U37) tumbled out of the nest box to the roof below. He is ok and is exploring the roof area under the box. I have alerted I&M so that they can move the camera, if need be, to check on him. Moxie will still care for him as usual and hopefully she can use some food to lure him back to the box. I did observe him hopping from the roof floor to the rail so he should be able to walk the rail back to the box.

While it is unnerving for us to watch it is a normal process for the chicks as they prepare to fledge. I was in a discussion with Bob Walton of Soarin' Hawk, and we feel that the chicks are too old at this point to intervene in putting Tom back in the box. The reason is because in doing so, it could frighten the others and they may jump of the box themselves leading to possible injury.

We will keep monitoring this situation and provide updates. I will also share, as soon as I find them, pictures of the roof of the building which should make you feel a bit better as there is plenty of room under the box for exploring so it's not like he could have tumbled off of the building.
Stay tuned and thank you to our followers for alerting us to this situation. It takes a flock!

There are also photos on their FB page!

He did make an attempt to get back in...no luck..ended up here:

Image

To add insult to injury, he slipped off..

Image

Ended up below..you can just barely see him..parent is probably wondering what the heck he's doing down there.

Image

He is probably very unhappy that he missed supper with the sibs!!

I found a few more...these were before the feed.

He's making his way up to the next level

Joins parent (Dad?) on the rail.

He preens for a few minutes...but, then another misstep, and down he goes..

I stopped trying to track him after that. Its not a huge drop.

:egg14: The chick on the right had better be careful or they will take a tumble too!

THIS IS NORMAL!!
May 21, 2024
This is the age the 4 GSB chicks were when they took the plunge.
They are FALCONS! They live on cliffs!
All 4 survived just fine.

We humans worry too much!

I saw one of the chicks near the edge before banding, and thought then it was gonna get up n out earlier than normal.

Those are really great pics! I took one for RRP.

Good morning!

I received confirmation from the folks at I & M that Tom is in front of the nest box on the rail. He looks fine and in fact he is preening himself :15heartbeat:

Photos will be on our Soarin' Hawk FB page.
